Well now, I didn't know they made a hat! I bet it feels nice if you keep it in a cooler on those hot days.

Nice review! I’ve taken some painful shots of the forehead before so I appreciate this!

My brain went to the Steiner Math promo when I read “chain mail skull cap.” 🤣

Good review. I’m thinking I’ll have to look into these. Head shots suck.

There's a 27.8% chance people will get this.

And if you add too many headshots to the mix, your chance of getting it drastic go down.

        Dude...I want.

Seriously, using chainmail for paintball is clever AF, and those look awesome. Are the links in the mail riveted?

They're just aluminum rings and o-rings. You should definitely reach out to Gatormaille on FB if you're interested. Like I mentioned here, almost my entire team has picked them up. They're great for hear protection.

Definitely will look into this product. Like you, I don't like getting beaned in the head. And let's face it...having chain-mail as part of your kit just sounds awesome.

Picked mine up. It took almost a month to get it, but I'm happy with the look and feel of it.

How does one of these compare to using a beanie? I have a Carhartt beanie that I usually wear that has done well, plus I get sun protection for my bald head. Having a ring mail sunburn would be... weird. (yes I use sunscreen, but it doesn't always get reapplied)
Does the grippy part work well on a shaved head? I've found a lot of things tend to not stay put due to the lack of friction, especially once I start sweating.

nice article & good product, but the line "if you've seen something that looks like chainmaile hanging from someone's mask, you've seen Gatormaile" isn't entirely accurate, some of us have been running homemade maile for close to 2 decades

I learned this weekend that gatormail is rubber, and in fact not metal... at least some of it; i cant' speak for all of it.

It's metal (aluminum mostly, if not exclusively) rings held together using rubber (buna-n?) o-rings.

Yeah it's metal and buna mixed. The black rings on mine are buna orings and the red rings are metal.

Here's some more pictures. You can see it better this way. I have seen some complaints about the G1 cap muffling players because it goes over your ears. I guess when I play with it the first time I'll know for sure, but it doesn't seem to be real tight over my ears. I didn't notice a big difference having it on. Though my hearing isn't the best to begin with lol.

I played around with different configurations and I think I might end up wearing the cap and a headband around it. I just want an extra layer of protection up front. Plus, I never get to wear headbands so it's an excuse to use them.
