    Sanchez Machine SM1.5 Tactical Kit

Ive been playing pump for a while now and a couple guys at our local shoot the original SM-1 Sanchez markers.
After building out a custom mini halfblock and being underwhelmed with how it all came together, I tried out one of their SM-1s and was very impressed! Smooth, lightweight and everything i was going for with my previous misadventure.
I decided to hunt one down.
SM1s are very light, with a blocky styling reminiscent to the cuts on Carter Machine halfblocks, at least in my opinion. The pump handle and bolt sled feature a dual rod design to minimize twisting and smooth out the action. The pump handles are aluminum and attach to the pump arms via set screws that thread in underneath the handle. All sm1 style handles are already drilled and tapped for hit man plates.
Having handled CCMs, Slice Kit equipped markers, and inception designs pump guns, my opinion of the SM-1 is that Sanchez Machine has done a phenomenal job with these guns and kits. While not quite as smooth as a polished out T2, the Sanchez guns have the potential to be upgraded with various aftermarket parts to fit the player's preference at a much more affordable price point.

Sanchez Machine is still producing parts and kits and barrels. The "SM 1.5 Tactical" Kits are available on the site at $450 as of this date.
The differences between the "1" and "1.5" are:
    (from the site)

"Redesign includes slot blocker, delrin double rod guide, extended front block, standard size Autococker detent."

Although it says a "standard size Autococker detent" is part of the 1.5 design, mine arrived with the proprietary, smaller than standard, Sanchez Detent.

My raw parts arrived exactly 10 days after placing my order.
    Included was:

    body
    front and back "blocks"
    rva
    ball detent
    pump handle
    delrin pump arm guide

The detent is spring and ball style and unique to the body. Smaller than standard and raw aluminum. A nice touch to be able to anno match the rest of the kit however, the detent is non rebuildable and attempting the process without disassembly will ruin the part. As it showed up already with the spring and bearing pressed in, I opted to leave it raw.

The vasa/front block piece protrudes into the front of the body with a keyed portion that aligns the delrin rod guide and body, minimizing twist and matching up the lines of the 3 pieces.

copy and pasted from another thread, where i was describing the kits to automeister :

the bodies were designed to used with the sanchez frames, which are the thin ones. you can totally use any frame you want, but standard thickness will stick out a little from both sides of the bottom of the body. this worked out fine for me since i already had a thin frame for this build to begin with

A bolt was not included in the kit and i discovered aftermarket bolts fit a little too tight. Im using an Empire sniper bolt without orings, functions just fine.
i did not reach out and try to get one added to my order but maybe thats the easiest option?

my pump handle came with two set screws already in it, make sure you remove these before sending to anno. if left in they will melt and ruin the handle, possibly making it unusable.

no handle main guide rod/banjo bolt is included. im using a 2k+ fluted inception unit in mine. the ccm thickness bolts will be too skinny.

These bodies require a threaded feedneck, the empire ones i had laying around worked fine

i got asked in another thread what spec the internals are. 9/16ths!

KMDPB was able to anno my raw parts but before sending them to him, i mocked things up for a few photos.

I went with a brown/black acid wash anno to fit the theme for my build : The Dirty Sanchez!

Dave brought my parts to our mod stock game this past weekend and I could not be happier with his work! Super affordable and fast!

Saturday night i slapped things together and Sunday morning, I was able to play with the gun for a few great games ...... until tragedy struck.
The grub screws that attach the handle to the pump arms had loosened and fallen out! It seems the holes have a relatively short section of threading and the grub screws that came with my kit were not able bite into the stainless arms. Blue loctite was not enough and, so, The Dirty Sanchez was put away and I finished out the event with the various other pump guns at my disposal.
The next day, I visited the hardware store and loaded up on a few different options.
Because the handle is aluminum i did not want to over torque the screws and risk stripping out the threads.
I ended up drilling the rods out, in line with the bolt holes and threading in nylon flat head screws, effectively pinning the handle and rods together into one, solid piece. while i dont plan on having to remove the screws anytime soon, if they shear off or the flat head strips out, they can easily be drilled or even melted out and replaced. For now, they are working perfectly!
This is my first 'extended reach' bodied marker. I usually like my cockers and snipers mini'd and tight as possible. I can say the added length and adjustable pump handle balance the gun very well and I appreciate this layout. Feels great, points great!

    Parts list:

    SM1.5 kit

Empire Sniper Halfblock Bolt with orings removed

    AutocockerParts.Com Gold Kit 9/16ths Internals

    Inception Designs universal Hammer

    Mozak Ver.1 Thin Humpback .45
    Shocktech Plate and Shoe
    FreeFlow Roller sear
    Random Springs
    Pearce "Hourglass" Grips

Freak Bored 14" Bob Long Longshot Barrel

Inception Designs Fluted Banjo Bolt/Main Pump Guide
I spent a few minutes polishing this piece as there is metal on metal contact with the handle.

9" Inception designs Stainless pump arms (had to be cut down ~5/8" to function at my length preference)

    Palmers Stabilizer Inline Reg

    Sconi Duckbill asa

cheapo air fittings and black macro for now, but ill find some braided stainless at some point.

Empire Mini Nano clamping threaded feedneck

My dedicated air source for this marker is the 36ci/4500 HK tank paired with a Powerhouse TKO reg, outputting 400psi. A very tight, very lightweight setup. Perfect for my intended use, Mod Stock and Limited paint games.
Ive got a Jolo with the feedneck cut down that works with this build flawlessly and a delrin stick feed for modstock shenanigans.

Shoots great and straight with consistent chrono numbers and very good efficiency. Shot feel and sound signature is about the same as a standard wgp pump.

So far, after the bit of extra work getting the pump handle to attach correctly and the usual tuning, Im loving this kit! Is it a bit of a pain to find all the other parts and get them modified to work together? yes, but custom builds are always that way. Is the kit more expensive than the original kits that were available on ebay? Yes, but they are still in the average range of what is currently being offered. SM1s pop up every now and then but its great the company is still active and providing new, available options. Is this basically just a Empire Ressy Sniper with way more extra steps and the added hassle of getting it annoed? Kinda, but you get to use any internals, reg, barrel and frame you want from the beginning. Personally, I had to have a slide trigger and wanted a match anno shoe.
AND YOURE SUPPORTING THE LITTLE GUYS!
If youre willing to spend a few extra dollars and time putting them together, I highly recommend the 1.5 kits! And if you ever catch me in person at the field, as with all my gear, please borrow the SM1.5 for a game or two and see what you think!

Great review! Sanchez makes some really nice stuff but never had an opportunity to use any of their markers or parts. Good to know they are still offering kits.

Thanks! I scoured the forums and youtube for any reviews of the new kit and really couldnt find anything, so I wanted to help out anybody else who was going down the same path! Lots of little details that wouldnt have necessarily been deal breakers, but its always helpful to get the whole story! I ended up buying a few extra parts when it looked like things werent working out so hopefully i save other folks that hassle.
Also, when i was just starting out, i was obsessed with The Ravi Chopra Autococker Info Sheet and reviews! So this is a humble attempt at imitating the master!

Sanchez stuff is hit or miss. I would say on par with a custom Carter gun in terms of parts compatibility and quality control. Which isn’t a good thing for a cocker/sniper platform which should be pretty standardized at this point. Issues with barrels not being concentric, and tolerances being all over the place. Seems they have at least tried to standardize the ball detent and lower tube length. But it appears that they are still sending mix matched stuff out the door.

Socalpumpballer , thank you for your perspective!
The team mates of mine I referenced at the beginning of the review acquired their Sanchez markers second hand, already with several swapped out parts. From my introduction to autocockers/snipers years ago, Ive come to know (and cherish? maybe suffer thru?) them as markers that offer (require?) endless tinkering and tuning but reward patient and skilled builders with unmatched performance and "personality". No two cockers/snipers ive come across have been exactly the same. The possibilities truly are endless for the platform and more tech and parts become available constantly.
Perhaps in the case of Sanchez Machine specifically, the body kits can be counted as a worthwhile contribution to the scene? You get to use any barrel you want and for the most part, wgp-style parts work great. There are definitely "quirks" and hurdles to get this kit functioning reliably, hopefully my review does a good job of describing them and i hope my solutions work for anybody else interested in building out a SM1.5. I would say, if youve got experience building cockers and snipers and considering these kits, they make a fine starting point. I dont knock Luis for the issues i encountered with my kit, you gotta EMBRACE THE JANK! it didnt take much extra work and im very happy with my results. Id also like to note that not once did i try to contact Luis about getting the rest of the parts for a full gun from him, or even what aftermarket stuff would work. so, not very well thought out on my end but im used to learning my lessons "the hard way"!

openclass "Streetball" pump day/tourney at some point. 3 man teams drawn at random

My buddy Aaron normally shoots a TM40, he wanted to try out the Sanchez so we swapped for a round today. I got shot by a teammate early on but he had some great kills and loved the gat. Hoping he joins the Dark Side soon!

These pics do a great job of showing just how tight this setup is. The tank is soooo light n teenie. The cut down jolo doesnt even stick out past your mask. after using that setup all day, shooting his luxe with a "normal" sized tank, full hopper and pack with 4 pods felt like i was wearing a weighted bag and swinging a barbell!

I made my own Hitman plate from an old Spyder trigger.
Going with the "Dirty Sanchez" theme, I had to christen it the "Sh_tman Mod" .
Another small change was the stab getting a CCM fitting. This particular reg has given me trouble since it showed up. All the threads are very tight no matter what gun i screw it into. Initially I had a ccm fitting on there but was plagued by leaks. since it lined up almost perfectly with the Sanchez vasa, I was determined to make it work. After dropping an ICD lever changer piercer seal into the reg before screwing the fitting in, everythings finally tight and quiet!

Heres a shooting video showing off the mod and the build!

          Another update!

Ive been using an empire sniper/resurrection bolt for this gun. it works fine, correct length but the sanchez sled is not slotted for the "captive" pin style bolts like these ones. to remove the bolt, i have to pull the pin completely out and try not to let the spring and bearing go shooting out. putting the pin back in is an even bigger pain, having to juggle keeping the ball bearing and spring pushed in far enough with a tiny allen key to get the pin started then slip the allen key out while keeping everything lined up to pop back into place.
not at all a feasible process if i need to pull the bolt mid-game.
A CCM T2 techT bolt popped up on Ebay so i nabbed it for testing. CCM bolt pins are held in by an oring inside the bolt and I figured id try it out.
The TechT bolts have nice, cupped and rounded 6 hole faces with the middle of the bolt cut into an hourglass profile for porting. Havent seen this before, but the T2 bolt has an angled groove for the middle oring, supposedly to minimize friction and the Orings rolling around. Mine was still too tight for smooth operation so I removed the 3 bolt orings like i did with my empire bolt.
The CCM style pin retention system works perfectly and as an added bonus, the TechT bolt gave me a few more FPS and a significantly quieter shot!
My final bolt related hurdle was removing the bolt once the pin is pulled. The empire style bolts actually sit in past the end of the sled and the TechT only hangs out the back about a 1/8".
I dug around in my parts bin and found an old Trilogy pin to cut down and thread into the back of the bolt.
While im not a big fan of bolt pins that stick out much from the side of marker, i love the way this one looks coming out of the back of it! No more pinching and slipping trying to pull the bolt out and now The Dirty Sanchez has 2 pump rods, 2 triggers AND 2 bolt pins!
