Bricks Anecdotal review of the Nova 4.1

I played a total of 9, 12 minute rounds of competitive woodsball last weekend with this Nova 4.1. The marker is not mine, but it belongs to ChoSanJuan.

When I initially tried to air it up, it had a leak at the frame, and didnt want to work. Chosanjuan had taken the frame off the night before, and didn't get the gas through macro line inside of the grip connected well enough. I need to mention it, but that was not the 4.1s fault.

After re seating the gas thru hose I fielded this beast for 8 solid points of tourney ball. The only reason I stopped was because the day was over.

The paint was micro sized, and cubic. So I used my creeper customs .670 brass nova insert I'm my Nova barrel from my N2 kit. That prevented roll outs, and though my barrel was a little dirty at the end of the day. I never noticed shot quality drop. Shot quality over all was really nice. I recall coming off of the field, and telling chosanjuan if my N2 shot like this 4.1, I would like it a lot more. After my second point. I came off the field and said, " what Nova 4.1??" Implying I wanted to steal it.

The slide trigger feels great. It's crisp and snappy. It did take a little getting used to, but I was able to find a sweet spot so to speak and really rip on it.

The marker cyclic kick feels reactive I think the bolt re closing really rounds out the kick profile. Yet it's so fast you forget it's closed bolt.

I'm not exactly sure what the efficiency numbers are supposed to be, but I shot on average 4 pods a potnt before air fills.most points weren't an issue. But I did shoot through my tank one point in 4 pods and a hopper. I felt something went wrong with the gun to be less efficient that point. It was the first game of the day, so it may have had issues from being in a car all night. Either way, I decided to finish our last two rnu ds with other markers to prevent shooting my tank down again.

The cons I noticed were as follows.

the poor efficiency for the one point paid attention.( 68/45 toast is 4 pods and a hopper) this was an outlier of the rest)

The trigger has a tiny spot in mid stroke of travel that would vent air. You can get it to keep venting if you hold it injust the right spot.

Once I had my rotor loaded the feedneck wanted to rotate slightly. i think the feedneck stub needs a bit of loctite.

Myrkul told me to look for a sharp edge on the breach, and there is a bit of an edge in this one. It did not effect performance., but it's something to mention. Myrkul said the one he got to fondle was sharp enough to cut him.

all in all...I want one. For the price point, they are a really fun shooter.

Nice review! I notice the feedneck coming loose is a common part of Nova ownership. My N4 and N1 have had issues that were easily resolved. Once was because I was attempting to adjust my hopper but had it clamped down tight in the feedneck, so the whole feedneck moved. It did not become loose though, so did not affect play.

I do like the look of the full metal body and if one pops up locally I would probably snap it up. My standard N4 was popular with new players I brought to the field.

Cool! Thanks for the review. I really like the way my original N4 points and shoots and it is a fun gun.

I do wish the efficiency is better though. That is the only thing keeping me from shooting it more often. I saw similar efficiency to what you saw and drained my 80ci tank with a 4000psi fill in 4 (150 round) pods and a hopper with a slight overbore and barrel detents.

I also did have the feedneck rotate on me. Maybe I should put some blue loctite on it. You do have to remove the feedneck to disassemble the gun and lube the bolt though.

I think the N4.1s are bolt out the back?

Correct! The new ones are bolt out back with a pin. The old ones need a couple of set screws to pull the core.

Yeah, feednecks are a common thing, not just Novas, when it comes to heavier loaders and threaded stubs.

I really wanted to run this for WCPL, but BrickHaus really wanted to main it. It's OK, cuz I had 2 N2s (my personal gen1 with gen2 mods) and my NX1'd 99 STO. I had plenty of Nova representation at the game. My STO was flawless.

Thanks for a great review with real-world use!

Would it be possible to stick a spring in there somehow to eliminate the dead spot, or at least make it harder to hit?

At anyrate, I think I heard jigs said they were already working on an upgrade trigger for the 4.1, so that's pretty exciting.

Nice review! Good to see folks working through the issues and quirks that seem to plague Nova's reputation. The local guys at my field have said their Nova stuff has been hit or miss. Most of them got rid of their markers after a few months, they just liked their cockers and emeks better.
I've spoken with TJ and Chris on several occasions during the NovaSlide release and I wont be a customer of theirs anytime soon.
I try to give "the little guys" the benefit of the doubt and i think its good they are still being productive and giving folks options.
Looking forward to the next review! Or maybe a follow up if that happens first
