Way late Emek review from long time mech user

I have ALWAYS been a mech or pump player. Been shooting primarily Automags since i purchased my first one in 1999 (still use that same mag today). When news of the GOG eNMEy was released I was excited and pre registered for one. And although it shot well enuff. The gun never clicked with me I was never happy with it as it always felt CHEAP and flexy. So it was sold few years back.

When the Emek was announced I looked at the pics and watched the reviews but after the disappointment of the eNMEy I decided instead to just go with yet another Automag instead.

Well finally decided to get something slightly modern as my Daughter started expressing interest in one day trying paintball. I figured having a lighter setup may be a good idea. So this past weekend I got out with the Emek at a big game. And figure I’d offer my opinions.

Overall I am very impressed. I shot the better part of two cases through it (maybe a couple pods short) as I ran the pump for one outing). ROF was rather impressive, Easily quicker than that of what I do now with my classic valved single trigger mag. Trigger feel was soft and a bit on the mushy side I found when I fired faster strings with the trigger being so light upon finishing my string my finger would come to rest and almost a half shoot the gun and a ball would roll out the barrel. This happened far less as I ahot more and more and got more used to it (I do prefer the more deliberate trigger feel/crispiness of the Automag trigger). I did upgrade the trigger immediately so maybe that was a mistake. I Will eventually try an upgraded 3-way valve to see if I can improve the feel of the trigger break. I opted for the Emek over the Etha 3m simply as i wanted this primarily for light weight and figured the Pal setup could be very beneficial for that alone. It shot very well and only had a couple chops all day. I ran it all day with a FS Hero 48/4500 tank with a reg extender (to fit me). And fed it solely with my Spire IR. Air fills were a bit lacking at 3500-3800psi max. But still I’d get about 3.5 160rnd pods and a full hopper per fill. May have done better if I bore matched but i ran an empire 2 piece .688 barrel I have had around forever (suites the gun in my opinion) Temps were pretty dang cold in the morning and warmed to seasonal temps in afternoon (-1*c warming to 10*)

I will say the Mag I had with me(I never go to a field without a mag) didn’t like the cold. I had a reg seal fail. I replaced the seal and it was back up a running but I decided to just run the Emek the rest of the day anyways.

Final thoughts. I should have got one these years ago. Great marker (you all knew that all ready). I’d say it’s nearly the perfect playing gun. The automags I’m such a fan of are still in my eyes “cooler” and I’d venture to say of better overall fit and finish, with much higher grade materials. I’d say they even still feel better to shoot. But where the EMEK truly shines is easier to achieve ROF and a lighter trigger pull, softer shot and much much quieter. Likely easier on paint than the LVL7 Automags and more efficient. The EMEK feels solid and the GRN body isn’t cheap feeling like the eNMEy. The Emeks will also be much more durable to scratches and scuffs than the anodized aluminum or even the blasted ss bodied Mags. Lastly I will say although I find the Emek easy to clean, It does have many many many more Orings to grease and inspect (I can see finding leaks to be much more problematic than the much simpler Automag valve.

Overall count me as a fan. Definitely won’t replace my mags as my favourite paintbll gun of all time but has earned a permanent place in my gear bag as the go to for when I want to play a bit harder (I’m old and have many injuries I need to plan recovery if I going play hard, case in point I took today off to recover lol) or in more adverse conditions.

Interesting. But I sold all my tuned RTing retro and X valved mags cause I wasted so much paint with them.

I do have the Hk rapid fire valve for the Emek as a curiosity. Only used it dry firing at home before swapping back to stock.

I actually sold my completely upgraded emek since I got a 180r and mech frame...

Sure the 180M is nicer to shoot than the emek but I miss my emek like a puppy I once owned...

      Thing shot so fkn good

Great write up. The other benefit is throwing it in the gear bag and pulling it out to use - year after year. I think pe greased it every 100k shots or so and ran it to 1 m shots with like 2-3 individual oring replacements.

Even I have given in and have to admit to its awesomeness. Hate the sound signature and think it's ugly as hell out of the box and really need to spend some time on the trigger to get a better feel, but its like the "easy Button" for paintball and is always in my bag for those days when the cocker is cranky and the mags decided it hates the paint. looks mighty segzy with a matt black inception ranger body and matching field one barrel

I sold off all of my mech Ions several years ago to buy an Emek and hated it/regretted buying it. I sold it to someone on here, I think.

I'm glad everyone else has been enjoying them but I personally don't.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

That’s fair I find it a solid shooter if not an inspiring One. The trigger feel I much much prefer my Automags, the Emek may be faster but the Mags just feel better and more deliberate.

But I MUST say I the EMEK is far superior to me than the GOG eNMEy was.

This will not be replacing my Automags by any means but i certainly am happy to have it.

Thanks I forgot I posted that. Here's the info you need

get your hands on a couple of tippmann fittings. One banjo and one flow fitting for a RT (I replaced the one that requires a flat head screwdriver with one that I can use by hand. It's a clippard fitting, I might still have the part number somewhere if you need it). Measuring from the back of the aluminum body tube drill your holes at 0.9" and 2.0" (you don't need to be super exact with those measurements) thread for 10/32. Make sure to clean up burs on the inside of the body with a needle file and you will need to grind down the fittings a little so they don't stick into the inner tube and make it so you can't get the bolt in. Other than that just make sure the flow control is the back fitting.

I have a DW hair on mine so I don't know what will change with a stock valve but I'm guessing nothing. When you zero it out it's straight semi auto, full open "party mode" is 12bps and everything in between

Same here. My ID FLE Emek emits very strong Automag vibes for me: Nice tubular metal upper and lower composite frame. If the Emek would take 45 grips that would be awesome though. The fact that the Gamma Core is easy on paint could be compared to a Level X set-up. I've got a DW hAir (V1) and an ID Fang trigger. The trigger pull is incredibly light and I can shoot I'd say 9+ bps without much effort.
"Aren't you getting too old for this??"
                    "Nope."

Totally Agree. Secret pin, Fl 3-way and the fang trigger is my current setup.

I love my Emeks. I have owned about a dozen Emeks and Etha 3M's in the last few years and I have customized them all and built them differently. Here's my love, dislike and hate lists.

                        What I love:
                        • ID bodies, I have owned so many of them! They give the little starter gun a polished and high end feel. Most people think I'm shooting some expensive high end when I bring out my ripper Emek. I always have to show them the single trigger when they ask what it is.
                        • DW valves (v1 and v2). They are both good. I almost think I like the V1 better but it's close.
                        • Fang triggers. Honorable mention to the Emach trigger but the Fang is the best hands down.
                        • LiquidPB trigger shoes. If you haven't bought or tried one, spend the $30 and you will thank me.
                        • The EMF. I know it's the same as the Emek in theory but my EMF shoots softer and quieter than my Emeks. I don't know why but it definitely does.
                        • The frame and front grip of the Emek. It is solid and chunky but it works for me. I add a gun wrap to the front and back and it's solid feeling.
                        • Exalt back caps. A nice upgrade so you can take the bolt out without tools. Not used much but it is nice when you need to remove it.

What I don't like or care for:
                        • I don't really care about the secret pin. The fang and DW are fast enough without it.
                        • The PE 3-way. I like the feel of the DW better. It has a slight different feel compared to the DW's.
                        • 3D printed bodies. I won't waste any more money on them. Most of them are junk.
                        • Whisper Drive = snake oil. A minimal difference if any.
                        • Soft tip bolt. Don't bother. I have one and it does the same as the stock bolt tip.
                        • SSC double trigger kit. Didn't make it any better than a Etha trigger but you have to hack the gun up.
                        • The GRN feednecks. I have had a few pull the screw out and not work. I like the Paintball Gateway pal compatible ones that are aluminum if you can find one.

                        What I hate:
                        • The core and hellfire valves. I have tried a few of them and I always take them out. They are hard to get a single shot with. I tried mine again last weekend and it fires fast but too fast. I want it to single fire better. Plus I think mines running at 12bps right now. Took it back out for now.
                        • I also don't like the electronic versions (Etha 2-3) because the triggers are terrible compared to the Emek feel and the other PE electronics. I want to love the Etha's but I just can't. In fact, I ended up buying a mini instead of an Etha this week because I prefer the trigger on the Empires versus the Ethas.
