I'm a big cocker fan, not a fan of Phantoms. Empire Snipers are good and you can also look at more custom built snipers built with various cocker bodies. You can get a fairly nice one in your price range and give you a more customizable experience. Even building a your own sniper is fun. Find a body you like, then lots of options on the various pump kits, internals, and trigger frames.

Thanks so much guys, the amount of advice is great. I have decided that I will most likely buy a sniper first to get out and play, then pick up a phantom as a second gun. Might as well not rely on one to do both, just have both lol. I can see how this will get expensive very quickly lol.

Comparatively pump paintball is much cheaper to get into then other paintball styles of play.

foreal, right before i stopped playing i had bought one of the first azodin pumps that were released, while i didn’t really like the azodin, pump was so much fun and shooting 1/4th box of paint the entire day saved so much money, which was nice at the time because i was broke, well i still am, just less broke i suppose haha

The first Gen Azodin left a lot to be desired. The newer KP3 is much much better. It’s smoother with a better reg and a barrel kit with usable barrel back sizes. They have come a long way from the first Gen. I never would have recommended the first Gen. But the 2nd Gen KP3 is hard to beat. Only downside is no auto trigger. That’s never been a make or break it with me the more pump you play the less you will lean on it. But for new pump players it dose help keep time. Is there a place around you you could try stuff out? Key is finding what works for you.

Yup, what they said. Stick with a sniper. It’s modular, modern, and you can make it your own.

Nice profile pic, btw. Love Nathan Fielder

Sniper platform (not Empire Sniper) is definitely the best for open class. Look into building your own or find one someone else built with good components. I really like CCM lower internals and their pump kits. The rest is cosmetic and lifestyle upgrades.

Here is everything you need to play any style pump paintball in one phantom package for a real good deal.

This + a Tippman 9ci and a small JoLo hopper would make a sick open class pump setup.

                This....
I recommend building a WGP-based cocker pump. Parts are widely available, they're simple to work on, and they translate well from semi to pump. Empire guns feel chintzy to me. Phantoms are great and simple to use, but they can have a steeper learning curve.

not to argue, I'm just curious: how do you figure a phantom has a steeper learning curve? I've always thought the opposite - in a big way. Tons of incompatible parts out there for Snipers/'cockers, and far more things you can tweak.

Siress For me it's how Phantoms shoot. The guns themselves are simpler, but I find them to be a bit more challenging to use and they have a different feeling shot, there's more of a "pop" to the shot compared to Snipers/Sheridans.

WGP pumps are great, but i'm old enough that the $300 + price sours it for me.

When you can get a Empire Sniper for $200-$300 and maybe have to spend $50 on a ID hammer and seals, have an AT and probably a barrel kit, hard for ME to pass that value.

Depends on what you're wanting to do. I like that I can throw a stick fee on my Sniper or Hopper depending on crowd size that day.

Look Into the inception hammer and pump kit. It will solve most of the main issues with them.

Siress, One would think have a limited supply of balls and Air would be a learning curve for a new pumper... Now you could use a 200 round hopper or a 48/4500 (kinda defeats the purpose of having a Phantom and makes useing one very awkward , or keep reloading a 50 round or learn to conserve paint (learning curve) or run a 13/3000 and learn to also conserve air.,, Now try Stock Class ....

fair point. I've played stock class (except for HPA) for so long that it's synonymous with 'pump' in my mind.

This isn't even my post and it led me to buying another pump. How does this keep happening??
