    Tippmann magfed questions

There may be some existing literature that would answer these questions but I haven't seen it yet.
Can the buttstocks be removed from the Stormer or the TMC? For the price point, I guess I wouldn't mind deleting the stock with a dremel; but would prefer to be able to remove or reattach as needed.
Are the mags/feeding system actually good?
Last, is there no current way to feed First Strike through the guns, even with available mods?

Edit: how would the tippmann guns stack up against something like the Valken/Milsig M17?

You can remove the stock, but you need a cover. There are 3d printed covers available. Personally I prefer it that way as it's easier to am with a bottomline.

The mags are good, I never experienced any jams.

There are no SIMPLE mods for FSR that I am aware of, most of them require permanent modification to the receiver.

That's what I was afraid of, but for $200-250, idk if first strike capability should be a dealbreaker. I'm not even sure how many of my local fields allow the use of FSR.

I have no experience playing in Florida so I can't help you there. FSR are more fun out of pumps or hand-loaded anyway.

The stock on the Stormer should just slide into the back plug and get fastened with a screw. If not a 98 back plug would fit it. Not sure about the TMC stock.

I have a TMC and I love it. Essentially a 98. I have never had an issue with the magazines, they have always worked 100%.

I sawed off the stock. Be careful not to saw to close to the receiver there are internal parts that extend 2-3” into the stock from the receiver.

If you cut of the stock on the TMC make sure it’s not to short. Also don’t over tighten the barrel retention screw it will close the clam shell body to tight and drag the bolt to a stop causing issues.

Okay, now compared to something like the Milsig/Valken M17, is the TMC still a good buy? The only thing making me want to spend the extra money is the M17 has a full-auto setting out of the box, which may or may not be actually useful.

Full auto is absolutely not useful. Full auto or burst can be a fun novelty, but that's it.

I had an M17. Shot very well, not reliable. Mags break ( 1 mag fell apart in the second game ). Full auto was fun but not practical. Also, push pins became loose and fell out of the marker.

If you're set on Tippmann, just pick up a Tacamo kit from MCS. I have a Hurricane (Phenom), Vortex (A5), and Tornado (X7 Classic) and they all perform very well with roundball AND FSR.

So grab a $40 Tippmann of whatever flavor, and then buy the corresponding Tacamo kit for $120. PM me with and questions, and I'll do my best to help.

What Brokeass_baller said. That seems to be a solid route.

I don't shoot magfed, but my thoughts are:

If you want something that's magfed fresh out the box you can't go wrong with a TMC. But I'll say that the Stormer sounds very attractive given it shoots round ball only, like a TMC, at a lower price point. The mags are a good value as well compared to Dye mags & others. I've been very tempted to pick up a Stormer myself just to give it a whirl.

The M17 shoots round ball & FSR, but I too have heard of reliability issues. It seems to be one of the cheaper ways to shoot First Strikes, but it may come with some headaches.

There used to be a guy on FB who modded TMCs to shoot First Strikes. Not sure if he's still taking on work, but see if you can find him there.

If you simply want to try magfed at the lowest possible price point & you don't mind shooting round ball only, a Stormer, used TMC, or a used Tippmann + Tacamo kit are probably your best options.

I've found that the Tippmann Stormer functions significantly better than the Tippmann TMC.

That is very interesting. I already have a TPX and a handful of mags, so that actually makes some sense. I took a pretty long break from the sport and honestly forgot that Engler still existed lol!

Engler said in a podcast about two years ago that he had insider Intel that Tippmann would be bringing back the Phenom. That has yet to happen. So I have nothing but hate and rage towards him (despite owning and enjoying a Phenom minimalist of his. Lol)

Does anyone else here think this new Tippmann (owned by Kore ) was absolutely brain dead not to include First Strike capability in the TMC!??

Would they have even had to license the technology, since it is just a D-shape feed port into the gun?

Even so, how pricey could it have been, since the cheap Kingman Hammer 7 had the FS capability?

the TMC has been a good seller (they're everywhere) but they would have sold like hotcakes , if buyers could have got into a FS capable magfed gun at that cheap price!!

FSR capable receiver is one thing but the mags are another. They would have to do 2 types of mags, like spyder did for the Hammer7 and MR series.

No they wouldn't. The T15 uses one mag for both roundball and FSR. Tacamo guns use either Helix or DMags. Both are compatible with roundball and FSR. You just need to change the springs with those, which is easy.

And yeah, I agree. I would still own my TMC if it had FSR compatibility.

Honestly if I was to buy a magfed marker it would be the Planet Eclipse EMF100. It’s not cheap (550) but they function great. It’s one of the few magfed markers that are going to shoot good out of the box without modifying or tinkering.

If you value reliability just save up and get the PE marker and be done with it.
