Going to the field by yourself, and camo

Does anyone go by themselves? I used to play years ago with friends. Tried going once since then and didnt really fit in so i never went back. But ive been getting that paintball itch again. Also... i have an atacs-fg pattern russian camo suit and boonie hat from when i was into airsoft... is that a strange thing to bring to an outdoor paintball field? From what i remember we would wear hoodies or there would be players fully decked out in colorful jerseys, pads, headbands etc. Sneaking around a woodsball field with an old school wgp pump or cci phantom does sound like alot of fun.

Show up and make friends at the field, as long as you're not a total tool it won't take long. Ask about other players gear everyone loves yapping about that.

Wear whatever you want, there is no dress code. Would strongly recommend at least knee pads though.

Keep in mind that if you are in a gilly suit some fields will have you call bounces as hits since its very difficult to tell if it broke or not. Thats not to big of a deal tho if you end up hating that rule u can just take off the gilly.

I started going to my local field solo. Usually I’d try and drag someone along, but just bit the bullet and went. It was nice not having to babysit someone and make sure their setup was ready to go. I fix up and sell markers and there were a couple guys who I sold markers to in the past. They recognized me (I had no clue who they were) and after a few outings I’m recognized by the staff and know a few of the regulars.

I assume being a purveyor of old markers helps the staff remember you. 😃

I have been wearing a full suit of German fleck camo when I play since 95 or so.
It does get some looks in the staging area, I know it's a little strange, but it's a part of my paintball experience, just like my ANS cockers.
My stuff works great, and has slots for pads so I can dive and crawl around.
I don't need to wear it, I want to, so I do.

Apparel has changed a lot these days. Half the time I play in a dumpy old crewneck from a brewery and some joggers.

Going solo feels weird at first but its how I usually play these days.

I still wear full camo when I play in the woods, but field days I’m usually wearing something more colorful. I still see lots of camo at the fields though so I think you’ll be fine .

Zero issues going by myself to a field and wear camo jersey "most" of the time. Not always the best camo but most of my jerseys have some form of "camo" pattern. As it is now in my area even if I don't go with friends to a field I usually run into someone I know or have met before (been playing since 1988 you get to know people). Even when you do not know anyone I usually get friendly with some of the players. This last weekend it was a bunch of Navy guys going through/finishing up Nuclear Power School/Training Unit qualifications. I'm an ex-Navy Nuke so recognized them and struck up a conversation. I almost always find players who want to connect and talk/hang out. While I am by nature an introvert I have no issues in social environments meeting people and interacting. I just find doing so very draining so by the end of the day I am ready for a quiet drive home

first off, welcome back! as long as youre friendly and enthusiastic and keep the good sportsmanship torch burning, never feel like you dont fit in! being comfortable and focusing on getting kills is always cooler than the guy with all the latest, "fashionable" gear

no better feeling than blasting those guys shooting $10/second with 2k worth of stuff with a well placed, single shot between the eyes with raggy old gear from before they ever played their first game. and then giving them a high five and offering to let them use yours for a round!

im a big fan of secondhand, goodwill camo cargos and the classic MCB hawaiian shirt
hit me up if youd like a "camo tie dye" hawaiian
i put pod pack slots on the back so your pack can attach underneath and the front stays baggy for airflow and bounces
the perfect combo of Fun and Cool and Functional imho

Keep an eye out for an MCB get together in your area and head to that. Lots of great people to meet from this group of folks. Wear whatever you want and don’t worry about the guys trying to look like all the other guys.

I think you got the right idea. Be respectful and friendly people will respond. Gear isn’t super important these days. You got the right idea with the stick fed pump tho. It’s very satisfying to play that way.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Easiest way to introduce yourself is ask someone about their gear. People love talking about their gear. Or be the “good shot guy”.

You will find likeminded people to play with don’t worry about that. Check out your regional section and if there isn’t any games organized local make a post and let people here know your intentions and playing location will be. Everyone I have met through MCB have been top notch players. In the North East we have built one of the greatest pump groups around. We started small and it’s grown to regular 20-30+ player outings spanning several different states threw out the North East.

Sunnyvale is about 50min from the American Paintball Park it has some pump paintball meet ups already. You will surely find what you are like for there. Last one they posted photos of had a strong turn out. CA has a great pump seen.

Like CDN_Cuda said, go and make friends at the field and not worry about coordinating with anyone and enjoy your day. I now prefer to go by myself. There's days when I am a social butterfly and talk to everyone and hang out as much as I play, and there's days when I keep to myself and just enjoy playing and doing my thing. When you take people with you, you have to take care of them to some extent. I have a group of guys that show up each week and it's great when they are there and if they don't, I make new friends. It's the best of both worlds to me.

As far as what to wear, you do you. I played with a guy that was wearing Loki horns and all green and black. I wear black and red everything including my Gatormaille headgear or Armagillo dreads. I stick out for sure. I love that and don't care what anybody else thinks. But they all know me at my field and I leave an impression when I visit fields. It's fun standing out to me. I was also the guy that was shooting the fancy Emek or the quirky Nova N3, now I'm shooting the LV2. I think whatever works for you. Just go and have fun!

Paintball is a niche hobby. I tried getting my friends into the game with a bit of success but not really long term. On the other hand I have made some really good friends by continuing to play all these years. As mentioned above, try to find an mcb gathering in your area. Mcb means a lot of things to a lot of people but getting like minded folks out playing together is it’s absolutely best feature.
Oh and my woodland bdu’s are standard uniform for the woods. That’s been the case since I was 8 and went out to play tag. And since I’m channeling my inner 8 year old every time I play it works out great. I have a Hawaiian shitt too I’m case I start taking things to serious

I'll never forget the guy by himself at the field wearing just a camo jumpsuit. He unzipped the front to show my friend and I his "volcano shot". So yes you can show up alone in camo and thrive.

Whoa. Someone on here is in the same state as me. Real talk, if you wear a ghillie suit or camo at American Paintball Park you’re gonna get rolled up like a carpet. They shoot through cracks and hit ankles, and can go through the tiny hole in the center of 2 spools to get you in the stomach. If you want to wear a full ghillie suit try Paintball jungle in American Canyon for woodsball, the next best place is Oroville, Combatzone. The issue is weather, it’s hot, you’ll sweat and fog up your goggles walking to the chrono. I play in the cooler months as much as possible and stop above 80• or if it’s raining.

honestly the sport has its own cultural issues in addition to location specific issues, but if your seriously into the game then you just play against yourself, it’s about having fun and getting outside and being lightly social for me. I wear an old grey or black xxl sweatshirt and some dark blue EMT pants with knee pad pockets in the knees.

Be mentally prepared to get peppered by electros until you get your chops up. When I first came back it was 15 balls to the back that got me motivated. I was pissed and called out the owner of the field, he said “ this isn’t Walmart we don’t do returns here”. Fucker.

All that said, I’m playing Supergame in Oregon and play almost weekly in the Bay Area, hit me up, keep in touch and may the pew be with you.
