    Micro Mag restoration

    Hello there,

I was directed here by some paintball fanatics.
I'm french so I'm already sorry if my understandings aren't as good as everybody else in english. However, seems like there's no better place to ask for help with my little paintball launcher.

Got kids finally old enough to experience paintball so I sorted out my stuff and found back some old ADG gun. However, I was already a bad tech in the old ages and I'm even worse now ^^ I'd like to bring it back to life correctly as I got great memories with it and I think it can be still a good one.

Simple questions, is it worth it ? Or is it just garbage now ? more than 20 years passed so...Hard to know. And if a restoration is possible, should I seek some tech guy or is it something I "could" do with some tutorials ?

I'm not sure if I should have posted it here, sorry if it's not on the right chan πŸ€”

    Thanks for reading already though

Nice automag! Although its not specifically a micro mag body. It is a micro mag valve, which is the same as a classic valve with different lasering. its definitely worth fixing up. On the other hand you could likely sell that mag as is to someone, and buy the kids a more modern marker like an emek for a bit more of a user friendly marker to a kid.

The splash parts are highly desirable to many, and that matched J&J barrel is cool!

ADG is still active, so you can order a rebuild kit for it.

Maybe see how much a rebuild kit would cost you with export fees to France as a starting point. This will give you a reference.

Then you can decide on selling as is to fund newer marker purchase, or fixing that up to let your kids live in your nostalgic glory.

      It's nit a J + J but rather a much more desirable Jacko barrel.

I *definitely* don't know anyone who has a Micromag body but is missing the valve who would want to see this sold and parted out...πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

The valve is sought after by people with Micromags, but lacking a valve with the correct lasering. There will absolutely be people in France that want to buy that valve from you, or trade in your favor for a valve lasered "Automag".

As has been mentioned, all the splashed parts carry value, and will be easy to sell if you should decide to do so.

Automags are very easy to get back up and running, so people gladly buy old Automags - hence, your Automag is definitely not a piece of junk. It will most probably be an easy fix, so you should be able to do it yourself.

Initially, if you have any paintball oil, then drop a liberal amount of it into the valve, air the gun up and see what happens. If it leaks, fire some 50-100 rounds and with a bit of luck, the leak might very well disappear. If not - post your results here, and you will get further help. There are easy steps to follow.

Regarding oil - use oil. Do not use any paintball grease for modern markers. Also, paintball marker oil is just rebranded air tool oil, so if you should happen to have that at hand, it will do just fine.

Oh, and it wouldn't surprise me if there was at least one paintball store in France that sells rebuild kits for Automags, so you hopefully won't have to order from overseas.
If you can't find any in France, send me a PM, and I'll send you one. We're practically neighbors since I live in Sweden.

Is there any tutorial vids on youtube or elsewhere to take care of it to begin with ? I'm pretty sure all the o-rings and not metal part are dead a long time ago and I should change them before anything else no ?

Is this the kit to buy ? https://airgundesigns.shop/product/a...ild-l7-tlb-ms/
Any link for the paintball oil ? Any brand best than others ?

I'd really like to keep it all to myself really, it's was a fine piece 25 years ago and seeing it so well preserved just give me the chill. Just want to disassemble it,clean it, change what need to be change and use it on my children (lovingly of course )

PS : I'm wondering if I should recreate a topic in the AGD part of the forum ?

Yes, that kit is the correct rebuild kit to buy to repair your mag

Any silicone/lithium based oil should be fine, there might be paintball specific ones on amazon for a reasonable price

Rebuild guides and videos can be found on YouTube, https://www.zdspb.com has some helpful diagrams and for all kinds of markers as well.

          That foregrip situation is interesting.
It appears that the previous owner turned a 3.5oz tank into a very large expansion chamber by removing the burst disc of the tank's valve and instead threading in a macroline fitting that runs back to the backbottle ASA. Doing this would have been reasonably safe in theory but of questionable legality.

We need to see the passenger side to get what's going on here. If the air line from the angled ASA hits the tank then an X fitting of some kind is needed - air in, to tank port, to other tank port, to valve port. There could also be two T fittings, one at the valve and one at the tank, but that would be very odd.

I'm unsure what's happening with the tank and hiw the air line is routed but I'd like to see.

Yeah we need more pics, better pics of this beauty.

Shame that another frame was cut. But still like everyone already said, most parts you have are highly sought after, eclipse rail, micromag valve, ano plug, barrel, dial a welt.

that cow set up is funky. I would keep everything, rebuild, put on/off, use air tank and go shoot your kids. By they way they might not be so lovingly with you.

That's pretty much what I'd like to do, too bad i'm so bad at tech stuff I'd love to disassemble it and do the right thing myself...

For the cut part on the trigger...Yeah i'm not really found of it, but hard to replace it and as it was painted the same way as the body, seems like it was something done to "enhance" it in a way. Well I could find someone to weld a piece back though

Here some more images, is it better to see what's going on ?
Again, it was something I had before 2000s, compressed air wasn't really a thing if I remember correctly (everything's, everywhere in France was in Co2) so i'm pretty sure there might be something better to do nowadays...Maybe ?

              Anyway I'm curious too

Remove the tank and all the fittings. You will need a new HP air tank. Just leave the vert adapter and put a gas thru foregrip on there. New Macro line and fittings from the valve to Vert ASA and new fittings and Macroline from the bottom of the Gasthru foregrip to the back bottle ASA under your grip. Add a parts kit and you should be good to go. I have everything you might need and I will ship international as long as you cover the fees. PM me here or email tunaman5@verizon.net and I'll hook you up.

The guard was cut off so he could get that double trigger shoe on there. Double trigger increases the leverage making the trigger pull easier at the expense of ruining the Benchmark Micromag frame.

yep, I would have preferred to keep the original trigger but well, it's done now and fit with the whole so...Not sure if I should modify it any further.

Leave it. Here most fields will need you to have a guard. Most ppl either print one, or bend some metal tubing/plate to make one.

Co2 is pretty much dead too. Every field I know has gone to air. I could not even find a place to fill co2. So check around and the field rules to see what you need to do.

The only thing I would change on that, is get rid of the co2 tank. Put just regular foregrip, and on/off asa line from that to the valve.

Not sure what’s it’s like around you but I use to take my co2 to any shops that have welders and they would fill be cheap or free.. but yes that was almost 2 decades ago.
