Getting back into it... many years off

What are the best pods these days?

I have memories of the 90s of pod lids opening while running, so those Dye lock lids caught my eye.

But I wanted to hear from some people who maybe are a little more plugged in.

Dye lock lids have been junk for 20 years IMO.

Everyone I know who runs pods uses the standard gxg pods.

      Awesome! Welcome back.

Pods have gotten really good. I would say you almost cant go wrong with any current brand. I prefer the genxglobal pods (plus they are actually made in north america!). I have not had one open on its own. I have had them shot open, i have caught them on things, i have had someone else open them. But not on their own (tippman, jt, hk, gxg, valken). I do really like the ones with foam in the lids. Its nice not having to pack them just perfectly so they dont rattle.

Yep, GenXGlobal (GXG) is the way to go. One of the rare cases in life where one of the cheapest products is also the best.

Properly loading and orienting the pod in your pack will help with pods opening while playing.

I use dye lock lids and I like them very much. I use JT and Redz 4 pod horizontal packs and am meticulous about rotating them so that I grab the hinge and the locks are protected by the pod holder material. Works very well.

GxG for sure, for standard capacity pods. Also for 100 round pods too.

I bought HK skeleton pods for the simple fact that I could glue googly eyes to them.

I'm still using my original 20yr old lock lids and I have no reason to give them up. My experience is the same, but I run a strapless pack with very little issue. They never open when running, crawling, or jumping, but they will pop open if I smash them in to a wall or something.

I bought my Dye lock lids when they first came out (has it really been over 20 years?) and only ran them for a year or two before I stopped playing. My style of play is/was really relaxed, not much running and pretty much zero diving, so I'd never found any issues with the lock lids unless the lids weren't fully pushed shut. If they weren't then they'd pop open without much effort. If anything I'd found the opposite problem of the lids requiring a tiny bit more effort to open than expected, like the slider just needed an extra 0.5mm of travel to unlatch properly, but brute force usually does the job though so it's just a little annoyance rather than a problem.

X2 for any lid that has the foam top. That makes a huge difference.

I didn't know such technology existed. Gonna check those out and get some or retrofit foam into the lods of my pods.

Trace a circle cut to fit peel and stick. I did this on some of my old 50pods to lower the amount they hold so they fed better in my older hoppers before the JoLo solution.

I dont hate lock lids, but I dont tend to use them for a couple of reasons.

1 they are designed to be high capacity. And they do hole more paint with their dimpled design. But that doesnt help when shooting a dye rotor, and you have to absolutely empty it to reload.

                  2. They are thin walled. So a pod hit almost guarantees a pod of broken paint.

My favorite pods are still the old acrylic pmi pods.

But empire 3 tab pods are also great for a no frills pod. The 3 tab design allows you to open from the sides or front. Thats pretty helpful in a firefight.

I remember paying crazy money for this Dye pods then losing crazy money in paint enough to justify throwing them out. I really only like the lids for modifying old 50 round hoppers like the Winchester for extra capacity and the spring open lids. As pods they Suck and over fill most standard capacity hoppers. They got to be completely empty to take a full pod otherwise the extra paint they hold goes on the ground providing the lids stay closed long enough for you to even load a pod.

Standard GXG pods are the Best Buy em cheap or pick them off the field at the end of the day because people leave them all the time.

One pod a day keeps the paintball goblins away.

I have a box of 40 - 50 pods that I've amassed over the years. There's a lot to choose from but I can't say that any of them are crap.
