    Monte cassino 2023

Our biggest event! 2 action paked days of paintball heaven. Monte Cassino 2018 had 520 players we are expecting even more in 2019.

I’ll be going for the first time to this bucket list scenario game.

Always wanted to make this game. Somehow it always gets left off our schedule.

I played at Monte Cassino 2019 and 2 of their pirates games. Amazing staff, little to no asshole players. You will love it. . Their website gives a good description on how the game plays out. Lots of people run older gear too. I may go if weather is permitting. And if I'm not still broke by then. .

Excellent to hear! The Fox's Den folks speak glowingly about it, so I'm excited. Probably going to run the pneumag and cockers, maybe a pump as well. Dye DLS will be the "oh crap" backup.

Could do what I do. Shred anything sent to me about taxes. Not gonna line some corrupt and evil persons pocket with my money. They can go launder someone elses instead. What part of illinois you live in? I'm not pre regging but if i do go you can car pool with me. .

            Be prepared for weird weather.
The one year I went (2019) we had a freak snowstorm Saturday night, and high winds that wrecked the dealer tents.

monsoon casino. Got drunk Saturday and slept through the entire thing. Woke up Sunday hungover to open my tent to snow and immediately went back to bed. April is looking to be a stormy one so far. .

                Joy.

I'll be camping in a tent, but at worst I can crawl into the car if needed.

Current forecast calls for like an inch of rain over the weekend with most of it being around lunchtime on Sunday. All in all pretty hyped for my first time out playing for Bud.

It's a good thing I double checked the address, I've been confusing PB2Go with Xtreme in Milstadt who's hosting the spring pump game later this month. That would've been embarrassing.

Side note, it appears that Bud Orr is out due to health. This was posted in the Monte Facebook group this morning:

Monte was a fun one. First off, weather was definitely weird. Cool Saturday morning turned into a very warm to hot lunch hour that ended with light showers through the afternoon. Saturday night some nasty thunderstorms rolled through and put on a quite a light show, and wind took out more than one camper's tent. Cold and alternating showers and filtered sun set the scene for the final day of play. After the final battle, Mother Nature got her last laugh with a quick dousing a sleet and wind as we walked back to the staging area. I drove through high winds and got the USPS special (rain/sleet/snow) on the drive home Sunday night.

Axis prevailed over the Allies, to the tune of 1050pts to 450pts. I played on the Allies side (Fox's Den got switched for balance reasons) and it was a rough go. First flag on Saturday was taken fairly quickly, and I thought it would be a balanced weekend, but that was end of it. I'm not sure if it was sheer numbers, command decisions, or commitment from players, but things did not go well at all the rest of the weekend.

I started off Saturday playing with my Dye DLS as I knew the first few battles would require quite a bit of firepower. I put about a case through that before taking my lunchbreak. It shot great, super consistent at the chrono, zero breaks, and efficient as all get-out. After lunch I switched to running my og GMEK, I really love how comfy that slide trigger is, even on a "soulless tube of orings". With the Liquid Bang Switch and Bone Shoe installed, it's a super classic feel.

After an hour or so I switched to my lavender Sanchez Machine Pump. Side note: I need to do a "MCB Reviews It" on the Accu-Lock kit, but I'll just say I'm in love with that barrel kit. The SM Pump performed well, but I still need to work on it. The pump stroke it fine 90% of the time, but every once in a while it'll start to bind and lock-up. I've got some ideas to tackle this issue and hopefully give that marker the performance it deserves. I played all day Sunday with the SM Pump, and again it shot great. Over the two days, I probably put a good half-case through the pump, all while running a JOLO hopper. That's a lot of partial reloads!

                      Lessons Learned:
                      - I shot the "field paint" all weekend and while it shot great out the marker, in the warmth on Saturday it was pretty bouncy (I was on the receiving end of many of those bounces as well). Next year I'll probably plan on preferring the premium paint unless it gets real cold.
                      - Bring all my paint with me for the first battle. Everyone warned me I would run out, and I did, having to make the climb up the big hill back to staging, then the walk back through the battle to get back into the game.
                      - Break down my tent Sunday morning before start of play. I was moving a bit slow Sunday morning and elected not to break down my tent before play started. Big mistake, it took me way too long to get out of there, and as a result my 5.5 hr drive home didn't get started until 5pm.
                      - Pack jersey/mask options for either team color. I made the assumption that we'd be sticking on the red side, so I didn't pack any of my blue jerseys. Not a huge deal as the jerseys I did pack were fairly neutral in color, but I do like to try to match my team color to reduce the chances of friendly fire.

Some things that bothered me (CONS):
                      - There was paint available in the safe zones (more on these later), but you couldn't use your pre-purchase tickets on it, and it was higher priced than buying paint back at the staging area. I get the higher price, but not being able to use pre-purchase tickets seemed kinda odd.
                      - Enforcement of some of the sportsmanship rules was pretty lax on Sunday. Things that were specifically called out as NOT allowed/in play were happening (barrel tags, firing at the respawn cone, using the safe zone as a bunker)
                      - There were reports of cheating, but that's minor IMO, there's always reports of cheating

                      Things I really liked (PROS):
                      - Safe Zones: there were netted areas on the field that served as true safe zones where you could take off your mask without having to walk all the way back to staging. In the active safe zone for your team (these moved as the battles moved) there was water available as well as paint for purchased. It was really nice to have a spot to take off your mask, take a short break, and regroup.
                      - The battle flow. This was my first scenario/big game where there was only a single objective at a time, and it moved slowly across the entire field. It was a fun way to get to play the entire field while keeping the action focused.
                      - There was a ton of young and first-time players, and everyone there made sure to do their best to make it a good time for those folks. Other than a few try-hards, it was a pretty sporting group of folks.
                      - Microfiber maps! I love these and really hope they catch on. For those that haven't seen these before, it's a sublimated print of the scenario map, with the game schedule and information, on the front of a microfiber cloth. They also have a loop on one of the corners. I use a carabiner to clip it to my paintball pants as it's super handy to have a durable copy of the field map on hand at all times.

This got long, but all-in-all I had fun and will definitely be making an effort to return and play Monte again and again.
