Tl;dr: Extreme Discharge not retiring, we killed it out there. Game was produced beautifully and even though there was a complex rule set, it wasn’t overbearing and only as involved as you wanted to make it. (ie: we didn’t want to do anything but play paintball, so we shot enemies and collected props, but if you wanted to be a Halo drop ship, you could have had fun too.) EMR had left a sour taste in my mouth after the Castle Frontlines “retirement” game and I felt we weren’t appreciated as players. I took a year off before this game, but I’m glad I returned. No field is perfect, but my EMR experience this time was pleasant. My only constructive criticism would be better paint and landscaping- which I touch on below. However, it really seems like they’re trending in the right direction, so I will be back to EMR and encourage others to join me.

I was just coming to update this thread. Wow. The game really reinvigorated my desire to paintball. For quite some time now, I’ve just been playing to see friends, but this was actually a really fun day.
I don’t think it was necessarily the game play, but just something the different from the standard eliminate the enemies, now swap sides and do it again! Now switch fields and do it again!

Padre Padre, who refuses to join the forums, and I, got right into the swing of things and did what was asked of us throughout the day. I’ll be the first to admit, I think anything implementing imagination is lame… (read: I’m not a helicopter), but those types of game elements didn’t affect game play any for those of us who just wanted to play paintball- they sort of just happened in parallel. I never found there to be a lull in game play, you could have as much action or as little, as you wanted depending on what you felt like doing… objective based or killing… with the perfect amount of overlap.

I can’t speak for everyone, but from what I experienced, even with the complex rule set, the game was only as involved as you wanted it to be, and for that, I think Firefly did a great job as a producer. Credit to him and the command staff who also recruited and kept the game moving smoothly, without issue.

As for the field… well. I have mixed feelings.
Registration went smoothly and quickly. Same for tank checks, air, and chrono. My paint was the worst paint I’ve ever seen in my life. It was honestly more of a cube than a ball. IoN paint was better- however, I did hear EMR mention getting back to blue paint after this game, so hopefully it’ll be fresher moving forward. My biggest complaint though was the grass. There were some paths cut into the extra thick sections of grass, and I don’t know if this was by design or not, but I want to spend my time after the game cleaning up and enjoying the amenities with friends, not picking ticks off of me.. so should any reports get back to EMR, let it be landscaping needs help. Overall, the field seems to be trending in the right direction, we had the most played I’ve seen in YEARS there and the staff seemed more pleasant than when I’d previously gone.

in short: Good game, good players , good field.

sounds like a good game. From yours and the one review I saw on FB, it sounds like EMR has had a rough patch in quality in the past few years. I haven’t been there since fall castle 09 so no idea that it has had issues. I assume management changed at some point.

glad to hear that the game was well organized and fairly well executed. I’d very much enjoy getting back out to play there, especially if the experience is improving.
