Safety BB Stuck in CF Frame. Any suggestions?

Got the set screw and spring out, but the BB is stuck in rust down there. Any suggestions?

Alum in water should dissolve the BB. Gentle heat should speed it up.

      I would drill it out.

I'd like to save the functionality of the safety of possible.

          • Altus, OK (I'd never heard of it, either)

Magnet? Turn it upside down and beat it on a table.

Soak it in white vinegar for a few days to remove the rust. Or, soak it down with oil for a few hours, then use a dental/oring pick and magnet to extract it.

Princess Auto has a nice set of SS picks, too.

Safeties are cheap, I sell the kit for $8

Squirt some wd40 on it, then work it out with a pair of pliers.

Thanks guys, got it out. Think I managed to strip the threading for the set screw though.

Man, I do need a new set of picks, and I just got a shipment of fittings from Princess Auto yesterday! I'll just have to wait until I need more I guess, their free shipping policy is excellent.

So what did you do to remove it?

Got the thin end of a triangular file that goes into a handle, and tapped it loose through the safety hole. Then I tapped it out from the top (I hope that hole is supposed to have a constant ID, cause it does now). Stripped the threads when I first tried to drill it out.

Damn, I would have drilled the safety itself and not ball bearing..

Hmm, yes that would have made more sense.

On a somewhat related side note, I left my sear and some other rusty parts in CLR overnight, and now the shiny coating on the sear has worn off (you can see the difference above the trigger rod in the picture). Have I weakened my sear?
