I don’t think you realize what sort of impact the bolt has inside the marker. I third the notion that you definitely need a steel piece inside to take the impact. It would be a sham to see such a nice looking project be rendered useless because of an intentional oversight.
Also, I think Ty Mcneer made a few of these on the old MCB but I don’t think he migrated over here. I would try and hunt down some of his old info if you could. I’m 99.99% positive he had the steel ring inside to protect his bodies.

2k9 Micromags were built without the washer and clips. They claimed due to the harder 7000 series (i believe) aluminum that it would survive. Lets just say it did not go so well. And they were soon sending people steel rings to put in before the spring. I feel even Its really just cheap insurance its worth it.
I know Xmagterror on AO made one of his Ule minimag bodies out of brass. It was to agd specs so it has the clip and washer.

Sure the bolt only weighs a couple ounces, but that weight gets slammed into it thousands and thousands of times a day when being used.
