Valve back spring pack I don’t recognize

I picked up a mag recently with some aftermarket parts. In working on rebuilding it, I found a spring pack and other part that look different from what I am used to dealing with.

can y’all tell me if this pack came out of something else or is it just an early version of the pack or what?

    thank you!

Looking for Angel LED single finger trigger. Also splashy mag parts.

Spring pack looks like all the ones I've ever seen - from here anyway. Maybe newer. There's plenty of regs that used automag style designs so it could maybe be from one of those.

The 'other part' you're referring to is the piece with the cross? Was it in the reg? Looks like an on/off top to me.

Yeah, you are right about the pack. I guess it is the other little piece with the cross that is throwing me off. It came out of the valve back and broke my brain.

I took apart a couple other backs and the packs are all pretty close. I guess the one in question just felt smaller this time? I dunno.

        Lol, you are correct sir!

That cross part is an on/off top that doesn't belong in there.

Also, remember the washer side of the pack faces the piston.

I can't think of anything else the cross part would be other than an on/off top. It looks similar (not exact) to an earlier stock agd on/off top. Did the gun function with that in the reg?

Almost 100% sure you are right about the nature of that part.

I was taking that valve apart while browsing agd for parts kits and a) because that piece fell out (while I was looking away) of the handful of parts I was holding and b) the item right below the reg seat is a kind-of close looking “regulator seat holder-retro” which I think lives within 2 inches from the thing I was messing with, I was very confused.

I’ll get a picture in here when I get a chance.

my guess is they put it in on top of the spring pack to try and get more adjustment range out of the pack as the adjuster was bottomed out. seen it a few times as the packs wear.

That is definitely an older stock on/off top. My Level 7 mag from 1995 had that same top before I eventually replaced it with one that is symmetrical so it's impossible to install upside down. Accidentally installing those old on/off tops upside down was always a common source of malfunction after a tear-down and cleaning. So much so that the correct orientation was laser engraved onto the bottom of the valve body as a reminder.

That spring pack looks normal, though I notice in the picture with 3 examples the washers all appear to be different thicknesses, which is a little odd.

The Automag: Not as clumsy or random as an electro. An elegant marker for a more civilised age.

Right! I had been messing with the farthest right pack earlier, which is noticeably different. so when I pulled the farthest left one out from a non-working piece of kit, my hamster brain went straight to “this is wrong”.

With the on/ off piece out, the adjustment nut screws way into the valve back. I stuck it back in because this will be living with a splashy tourney lock and there was barely any thread for the lock to grab on to.

Toestr, it wasn’t functioning but all the o-rings turned into powder or goo. Waiting for my big agd order to land so I can rebuild all these chonks.
