Looking for a mag whisperer

I am definitely more of a cocker whisperer than a mag whisperer so I am looking for some help. I have a modern ULE, x-valved, level 10 Yada yadda mag and she shoots great. Today was the first day of play and it was being used by my neighbor. It was using a ninja SHP tank and chronoed to about 280fps and would RT but nothing crazy.

The problem was, at roughly 1000 rounds through the x-valve and with a full tank it did a thing where the trigger would pull with some resistance but it would not fire. I degassed and regassed a few time and she came back to life and shot fine for the rest of the day.

Thoughts on a cause?

First guess: O-ring flashing or debris in the on/off assembly. I'd take the on/off assembly apart and clean it, lube it up, and shove it back in.

Likely the on-off, as Siress noted.

Although I had something similar happen on my RT and I found the power tube tip had unscrewed... but I was also chopping like mad because the bolt wasn't returning properly.

Thanks, I will open it up and take a look. It seemed odd that if came back and worked the rest of the day but I guess is it also possible that whatever debris was in there got shot out.

I've had bits of Teflon tape work their way into strange places and mess stuff up intermittently. Could be anything, really.

Took her all apart and didn't see anything foreign or damaged orings but that doesn't mean whatever caused it didnt shoot out already. Lubed it all up and reassembled so now it is a waiting game to see if it happens again.

I am actually thinking something like bolt stick. If you chance to have it happen again, reach down the breech and see if you can push back and reset the bolt.

I was thinking that as well. I just need it to happen not during a game when we are being shot at.

As a side comment to this...put an OBSCENE amount of oil in it, without a barrel and just blast a few hundo shots through it. See if it sticks again. If it does you might consider loosen/tighten the body and valve screws as that can sometimes cause a bind and issue with the LX and to a lesser degree L7 bolts.

This can happen sometimes when you are right on the edge of your air pressure being able to fire the bolt and overcome the spring pressure. If you are running a longer lvl x bolt spring, put in the shorter one.

I am running the longer spring but was hoping the SHP tank would overcome it. I will play the shorter spring and see how that does.

It won't matter what your input is, it is what the output of your valve to get to velocity that dictates the pressure on the bolt/spring. Input only helps with RT sensitivity/speed.

This makes sense. I seem to remember the marker doing the same thing before I turned the velocity up to 250ish fps. Odd that it only happened once when I was shooting fairly consistently in the 280s but I will put the shorter spring in and see how it goes.

my guess is your carrier size is half size to small and the next one up leaks. level 10's do have a break in period.

I would pull the valve apart check for dirt or foreign material, reassemble with the next size up and see if it leaks. If not you should be good to go until it does. If it does leak you will need to wear your carrier oring in.

BTW to much oil can mask other issues. like too tight a carrier oring.

I've had what you describe happen with bot stick and the bolt not quite fully returning back- specifically, where the thumbscrew holding the x-valve in was tightened too tight causing the bolt to move off line with the body.
