A dumb and simple question about the trigger pull and the on/off

So the automag i have is the first ever automag i have ever used or ever seen in person. Its cool finally being able to see one in action and use it compared to when i was a teen years ago. I know when you pull the trigger that moves the sear and that allows the bolt to move forwards and operates the on/off allowing air to flow. I have an x frame and notice that if you pull the trigger but not far enough back it makes an air leaking noise from the back of the trigger frame area near the on off. It doesnt leak air if i shoot it but if the trigger is pulled in a way where it wouldnt release the bolt, i hear an air leak. Is that supposed to happen or is an o ring in my on/off maybe not set right? I wanst sure if this was just a thing like short stroking an autococker or if maybe i can change it.

When you pull the trigger in a 'Mag, it shuts OFF the air flow before releasing the bolt.
Pulling a small amount that does not release the bolt, yet allows air allows air to vent is often O-rings.
Although I've heard the same problem when the on-off is assembled with an upside-down part.

There are other AutoMag gurus here that know better that I.

It could also be a trigger pin adjustment issue but I would say the most likely is an o ring wearing out.

And yeah Jim was correct, the on/off pin is open at rest allowing air into the dump chamber and then is closed off when the trigger is pulled

So i took out the on/off assembly and checked the small white o ring that would be farthest in. Apparently there was a larger black non white o ring in that area with the small o ring. I have a feeling that should also be one of the white o rings that are seen elsewhere on the gun. I have a spare white o ring of that size and after using that and putting it all together the leaking is almost 100% gone when i pull the trigger slightly. I assume whoever had the assembly before me put that o ring there. Is it correct to assume that black o ring shouldnt be there? I know for the automags the rebuild kits most of the o rings there are a white color like paper.

Do not pull the trigger "slightly". The automag is designed for a "full pull and and a full release" of the trigger. Trying to use it any other way will result in the issue you are having and will wear out the bolt and sear. There are no "black" orings in the Automag. Only the Emag has the quad oring which is black, and the ULT has a black oring that is only available in that size. Dont use crappy orings.

Thanks for the info on the full pull and full release. Also i only just realized the black o ring. I got the bolt and classic valve used and only just took out the on/off to see it and noticed it. I probably should check some of the other o rings too to see if this happened elsewhere.
    Working...
