    Sanity Check - Bolt Stick

I’ve been working on and off on a friends tac1 with x valve for more than a year. He’s not in a huge rush, but I’d like to get it to work. Can anyone tell me if I’m on the right track?

    original problem

bolt sticks, gun airs up without leak, trigger just mushes all the way back and doesn’t do anything.

    original solution

clean it. Found out the bumper had turned to putty and was gluing the bolt in place. Once bolt was broken loose and oiled it cycled well on my tank (unsure of output pressure) but he had trouble on his tank. We assumed at this point it was because the old bumper was still in there and was re-gluing the bolt in place.

    next solution

replace bumper. He has replaced the bumper with one purchased off the agd site. Oiled it up. Still having intermittent bolt stick.

    new theory

output pressure on the tank is too low, need new tank reg with 800psi output. Assume his is low pressure but don’t have a way to test right now.

does that seem reasonable? The thing I’m hung up on is that it will cycle, but sometimes just get stuck and quit.

If the bumper was goo, what are the rest of the seals like?

Visually they were fine, but good point. That’s probably the most straight forward approach, it definitely wouldn’t hurt anything

This was my first thought as well. If anything in the reg is sticking as well it might not be feeding pressure into the dump chamber at the correct pressure.

Try turning up the velocity, mags are a balancing act and if you have too much rearward spring pressure it can cause the bolt to not cycle. Cranking up the reg is adding more forward pressure so if it starts cycling with this you might need to change out the main spring to something softer

Another is the detent is too far in. Some have had that problem, especially when it is not AGD detent. Use thicker oring or two of the regular orings.

Not sure if this is it or would help but I have a micromag with a micromag rt valve that would air up, not leak, and the trigger would mush back but it wouldn’t fire when I got it. I tried all sorts of things but taking the bottom oring out of the on/off, lubing it, and putting it back together got it working.

Good ideas, I’m going to have him

1- pull out/apart the on/off, re inspect and oil
2 - remove the detent and see if that fixes it
3- crank the velocity and see if it cycles consistently.

          if those don’t work

4 - try a rental tank, those are almost always HP output
5 - actually buy a rebuild. Should probably be #1 but I’m always hesitant to buy new stuff before trying everything
