Provenance for a “custom” eMag Micro

A few days ago I bought an eMag Micro on eBay off a whim. Not much info beyond the pictures and being listed “as is”. I posted the eBay pictures in here and other places trying to see if anyone recognized because it wasn’t a standard eMag Micro. I got some great responses but no “smoking gun” if you will.

Well the marker arrived today and it looks great for a 26 year old work horse! I spoke with tunaman5 and already have a new battery and charger components coming. In the meantime time I did a quick teardown plus power-up test and I am now even more convinced that it’s a marker someone in the “enthusiast community” built since its running Xmod Beta 1.8 and has what seem to be custom epoxy(?) grip scales with St. George slaying the dragon in each one.

Please see the pictures and let me know if you have any information about the history of this piece!

I could be completely mistaken, and I know a bit about old things because I was super into paintball fro
the mid 1990s-2001ish. The emag wasn’t around long but I do recall seeing a very slim amount of micro emags produced and advertised. The emag, warp feed, intimidator, and new shocker after the shoebox were the last new things I remember being new.

However, my first impression is that it is indeed a custom Micro Emag built by somebody. Reason I say that, is that the micromag 2000 switched to a vertical feed body and the option for the RT valve. Also, the curved notch out where the foregrip (battery?) attaches has the same curved cut out as my gen 2 micromag. You can see my thread o titled “micromag rebuild” on this forum. My guess is somebody had a gen 2 maybe gen 3 and added the electronic frame, the micromag/emag valve, and the battery. I could be wrong but that’s my opinion based upon what I know. Tuna and sandman might be the best experts on this

      From Forest Hatcher at PTP:

”There are a bunch of things both right and wrong... It does look like our Gen 4 body, with custom milling. The spacer plate, vanity plate, and battery box are all correct, in addition to the valve. We did have a couple of people copy our bodies, but it's been so long that I don't exactly remember what those look like. We only did about 25 of this style of bobtail body. The top rail became super thin as a tapered back, and we ended up cutting them shorter. That would have been 1998 + / -, and the bobtail limited to only those bodies until the program was adjusted to be a little beefier on the back end.”

I do find it odd that the frame is not annoed to match. It does have the finger grooves that PTP used, and aquiring all of those PTP specific parts to assemble that would have been quite a challenge. Make sure to clean out that teflon tape out of the air inlet on the valve.
