    Installing ball detent in bolt?

    Howdy,

I have a perfectly serviceable open-faced 2K+ bolt with the old pull pin. I despise the pull pin and have a good supply of bolt push pins. While it's within my abilities, I really don't want to buy a $50 tap just to thread the rear for a pull pin detent. Could I epoxy one in-place instead and have it hold? Wouldn't be a challenge to make a spacer to fit behind the detent to get the tension right.

Thought about it, but 1) I have bolt pins, and 2) clevis pins look tacky, not that the Cocker this is going on is a show piece.

Not to sidetrack this but what tap do you need that is $50? I'm pretty sure my whole tap and dye kit was around that (not positive, it was a gift) and it's had everything I've needed so far

          A good one.

A $50 Horrible Fright tap set should work for one hole in aluminum though. And then he’d have a set of taps.

McMaster Carr. 1/2-13 UNC is not the most common size. I already have a taps and dies for the stuff we normally encounter. I try to limit my business with the chicoms, too. I have all the parts necessary to epoxy except for the detent itself, which I would need either way.

Everything I can find says 3/4-16 for the IVG and 5/8-18 for the valve retaining nut.

You pay for shipping, I can send you a tap to borrow. Just send me a PM if interested.
