    Kaner freak boring

Hey all, I recently picked up a super clean orracle and am getting it set up to use this coming season. It has the old style Kaner barrel of course matched to the fade on the gun so I'm on the fence about getting it bored for freak inserts just due to it's rarity. Does anyone have experience freak boring a Kaner? BMC says you have to bore into the barrel front a little and it's really thin there some I'm concerned about possibly weakening it and having the barrel break. Would it be better just to get a somewhat matching freak barrel?

If he can bore the barrel, could he take a set of freak inserts and trim down the length? Would make it a custom set for your gun, but would avoid having to bore the front half.

    Just an idea.

What color orracle? Is it possible to find a Gen 2 WGP Kaner Kit that matches?

With the longer backs you probably wouldn’t have any issues.

It's an orange to black matte fade. The orange is on the front so the barrel would need to be orange. Easier to track down a freak barrel in a similar orange than find a gen 2 kaner

I'd definitely get it standard freak bored and even go into the barrel tip, no problem with that.

I had BMC do one of my Kaner backs for 5” inserts. (Not sure if I have the older style). I have a full kit for my Karni so I took the chance at having the .691 back done.

He didn’t need my front…So I’m assuming you have 8” inserts?

Maybe pick up a cheap set of 5” inserts (I have a set I no longer need…just sayin) and have it bored for 5s

I have both freak and XL bores. The 5" ones definitely go into the barrel front about 3/4" on the old style kaners that came on orracles. I measured the length of the control bore on the back and it's only ~4-1/4"

          Eh….it was worth a shot.

Looks like trimming down freak backs is the way to go! Good luck.

And Brandon at BMC had my vote 100%. He’ll take good care of you.

I know nothing about machining. I was talking with bmc recently and he said he could rethread a vm 68 barrel too a cocker thread. And a sterling thread body to cocker thread.

So would it be possible to rethread a freak back to accept kaner fronts? Depending on the fade, this could work.

Also bmc just freak bored a dye ultralite Spyder thread back for me and he did a perfect job. He has all my machining work from now on.

Yep he's the best. Has done a couple helicoil jobs for me. Sending a Sentinel barrel for bore soon, it's a pretty ano that matches the front half of the marker so need to keep it

Yeah BMC is the way to go. I feel bad because I keep promising to send him work and then I get another gun so I've been building a stack of barrels to send in.

That's actually a great idea. Just get like 3 stainless backs and have them trimmed so they don't go into the threaded portion of the tip.
