    Eclipse Ram

I’m sure everyone knows about those stupid hard to source shaft u-seals or cup seals whatever. Seems using a -007 oring will work just as well. I put one in mine since I noticed scraping on the shaft and a loss of pressure on the closing side. Feels the oring gives better support and there’s plenty of suction/vacuum no air loss when you plug a port and push or pull the shaft. The oring also stays in place, and doesn’t shift around. Surely someone else has been doing this for a while but forgot to post their results or I’m an idiot in the making and this will fail. Time will tell...

Mostly I see those called u-cup seals, although you're right about different companies often giving them slightly different names. The O-ring store has a whole section of them.

To get the right size, you probably need some calipers to take some measurements.

If those seals are black and relatively squishy, you probably want a buna-70 style. Once you know the measurements, you can go here and page through the different results until you find something that matches.

Forgot to check those guys. I’ll order some if the oring doesn’t work. I just hate having to track down odd things for one part. Thanks for the link

KD, I'm anxious to hear the results of the o-ring in place of the U-seal. I bought O-Ring Store's airsmith o-ring kit, so I have plenty of -007's. Good to know they have the spec'd seals, as well.

So far the oring seems fine, and the shaft along with the boss for the seal seem similar to Inceptions GTR (ID uses -008). I’ll probably put it on my Orracle and run the hell out of it to test.

Just for fun, you can see the similarities between designs. I’m not knocking either except PE for using a stupid shaft seal. Inception has a thicker shaft and smaller collar, so that’s a bonus as well.

Follow up: I ran a full 90/4500 to 2k psi. Rapid shots till the muffler was warm and tons of pneumatic cycling till cold on training mode. Ram oring is still sealing and no restrictions or hiccups. The oring is still in place as well. I’m gonna call this a success so far. I may keep the ram now.

How long have you been using orings instead of the u-cup seal?
