    Lubricants

Branching off of a thread in Ask The Experts, what lube does everyone use? I have at various times used Gold cup, Marvel Airtool, Tri-flow and Vitamin O on my oiled markers from Tippmanns to Spyder to Cocker. Reading that thread, I'm getting the idea that Marvel and Gold Cup are not welcome and can accelerate the wear on internals and orings. What about TriFlow and Vitamin O?

When evil went out of business I bought like 10 tubes of evil pus. So I have used that and gold cup for as long as I can remember. However I was talking with docfire and he mentioned he offered a grease. He threw in a small tub with an order and I love it. It wipes off my hands super easy, but is really slick, and seems to stay where I put it for longer than the pus (noticable on bolts). I'll be using that indefinitely.

Gold Cup is cheap air-tool oil, it's intended for use with inline oilers. That is, there's a reservoir attached to the tool, that mists a little oil into the air stream, to keep the die grinder or impact gun or whatever, properly lubed internally.

In use, if not regularly refreshed, it partially dries, and gets gummy. Maybe not absurdly so, and it's not bad if you're regularly using and re-oiling the marker, but in hot weather, it can go in a hurry.

I have to admit I'm really not as well-informed on the various paintball oils as I suppose I ought to be. O-rings get Dow 33 or 55, and for oil, well, I've been a big fan of KC Troublefree, now Outlast, since before I started this biz. I've used it on virtually every marker that's come through the door, on 'Mags on CO2 in the winter, to electrocockers in 80 degree summers.

That said, looking at their site, it still calls for Flash for "proper viewing", and is dated 2009. I'm going to send them an email and make sure the stuff is even still available. Last time I ordered some was back in 2012 when a local field opened. I ordered a ton for them and myself, sold a bunch in my store, but haven't restocked yet. When the field closed, I got their stock back, so I've had plenty for a while.

AND... I'll also gladly admit I'm not up to full speed on the lubes and greases for some spoolers. The Dow is generally a good O-ring grease, but I'm sure there's formulations that various marker manufacturers recommend, that are as good or better.

Next time I need oil I'm just going to harbor freight and getting 12oz for $5. Air tool oil is all you need. Ive been running off of random little bottles that come in the gear I buy for a while. I'm finally running low and looked around, couldn't believe the prices. I'm not paying $12 for 0.8oz when I can get the same stuff for $5 for 12oz

For grease I'm pretty consistent on using hatersauce. It's a little thinner and especially because I'm in the Pacific Northwest I've just felt it's better for my conditions

Mollykote Dow 33 for all grease applications. All manufacturers of grease use Dow 33 and then add stuff to it. Repackage it and sell it for a premium. Hater, Monkey poo, Virtue, PE grease, Dye, it’s all rebranded Dow 33 with some additives to change its color or smell. You can get a big tube for way less.

Mollykote Dow 55 for stubborn situations like 3ways and such that don’t want to seal up. (55 swells orings a bit)

For oil I switched to Outlast because the Polar Bear recommended it a while back. It seems to work great staying in place and dose not turn orings to goo over time. I threw out my leaky gold cup bottle. The outlast came with a lil tiny bottle great for the tool box and a big bottle for the bench / refill and the bottles don’t leak. Something I can really appreciate coming form that gold cup that pissed all over everything in the toolbox.

I might have to look into the outlast, where are you getting it from? Their web page only has a 1oz bottle

I got it from Doc I think but looks like he’s sold out. Or maybe I ordered it directly honestly I can’t remember. It’s good stuff. I get really good efficiency numbers with it on my SC Phantom and I don’t find it gets shot down the barrel. It’s slick and stays put well you don’t need much of it to do its job.

I used KC in the past, but now use Gold Cup. No issues in 30-40* or 80*+ weather. For grease, I've always just used Dow33 and 55, but I got some Hater Sauce in a gun purchase last year and really like it. That stuff is SLICK. I need to play around with a chronograph and see if it'll let me lower my dwell. It's very noticably slicker than 33. Probably won't matter much in July or August, but October and November, might keep the electros running better.

For those interested I've been looking at these Nalgene dropper bottles to put oil in. They're a little pricey but they're meant to store liquids for traveling so they should be leak free and they're Nalgene so they should be good quality. I was going to get a larger one for at home and a smaller one to take to the field.

Or you can keep your current bottle and put it in a ziplock bag with your allen keys so they never rust!

I haven't pulled the trigger on these myself yet so if anyone picks them up report back on how well they work.

Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for Nalgene Drop Dispenser LDPE Bottle - Clear at the best online prices at eBay! Free shipping for many products!

Synthetic air tool oil (same stuff I run in my air tools) and DOW 33 grease depending upon the marker.

I use Magnalube on anything that needs greasing- paintball markers, firearms, tools, etc... Markers get a squirt or two of KC or PMI oil in the ASA before airing up.

Oil: Super Lube Air Tool Pneumatic Lubricant.

What did you use 111 on? It's quite thick.

And what did you use the lithium on? That'll destroy o-rings in a heartbeat.

I've used DOW 111 a few times, almost exclusively on static/mostly static seals, as it is too thick for most dynamic seals. It's not something I've made heavy use of though.

Lithium doesn't have a problem with Buna-N or Urethane. In fact, DOW 33 Medium is 14~21% Lithium stearate. Maxima Waterproof Lithium grease is commonly used for bearings (which is why I have it, I use it when working on/building motorcycles/scooters/cars), which use seals often made of Buna-N. I used the Maxima Waterproof Lithium grease on an Autococker ram and 3/4 way that was giving me sealing problems. I wanted a grease that was sticky and wouldn't blow out as easy, but still a low enough viscosity to not slow things down significantly. It's been at least two years now, and they are still problem free.

Now DOW 111, nor the Maxima Waterproof Lithium grease, are my go to greases. I use DOW 33 Medium heavily, followed by Super Lube Air Tool Pneumatic Lubricant mixed with DOW 33 Medium, followed by Super Lube Air Tool Pneumatic Lubricant alone, and finally DOW 55.

I like dow 111 has it's place in my tool bag. I use it on all my HP tank regulators. scuba safe. non-combustible. food grade. Also really good for when you need to run a little more pressure and have the grease stick better. same anti-stick properties as dow 33. I have also, used it on pesky leaky 3ways, and static orings.

My team was sponsored by KC trouble free back in the day.

                      I still have plenty.

I use synthetic gun (read: firearm) oil and Hater Sauce for spoolies and regs. Like trbo323, I’m the PNW and the cooler weather calls for a thinner grease.

I looked up the SDS for that gun oil, and it's still a petroleum product. That doesn't eat through your o-rings?

Maybe I should have stated “I use synthetic gun oil for blowbacks and Hater Sauce for regs/spoolies.” HS has always worked well undiluted for me.

Regarding the oil, it works fine. Tippys and Spyders seem to love it - I typically only replace the o-rings in my loaner guns when the seals fail, and they work for a few years typically before something needs replacing.
