Roller triggers and sears in mechs and pumps - thoughts?

Opinion time!

All of my cockers have been pumped. I had a roller sear in one, and I didn't really notice much of a difference in smoothness. When I put a normal sear in I actually felt like the trigger pull was a bit nicer and more crisp.

What are your thoughts on roller sears and roller triggers and their application in semi-automatic autocockers and snipers?

depends on the setup.. Roller sears are for sliders.. of course they can be used on anything but you don't see many gain on a swing/hinge trigger. I've found that for me personally.. the right hammer/spring setup has a lot more to do with how the trigger feels than bearings in the sear/trigger. Also I've always made it a habit to round and polish my lugs.... takes like 5-10 minutes with a dremel and a drill and it keeps my monkey brain happy...

At least Hellion360 like roller sears, at least according to his most recently WTB. Personally, I'm not a trigger snob. As long as it feels good in my hand and got bang when I pull it I'm fairly happy. Don't recall if I've ever used a roller sear in my pumps or cockers.

The ID frames put them to good use, especially with the short and snappy style plate. Makes less difference on a classic ramp, but still lowers friction.
AKA: Your plate geometry makes a big difference in the perceived benefit of the roller sear.

Also, I don't use them on hinges. Most hinges it is completely irrelevant. Not helpful at all.

I put roller sears in both of my cockers, one hinge and one slider. It's not a world of difference but it makes it just that little bit nicer. Definitely noticed a bigger difference with the slider than the hinge though.

A roller sear made a big improvement when I used it it with an early stock WGP trigger from a potmetal slide frame. The trigger was cut very roughly and was very gritty with a regular sear (even after sanding worst off the engagement surfaces). In my case I think a lighter sear spring would have also made a similar improvement for less cost (I was using the HEAVY stock spring probably meant for use as a combination sear and trigger return spring on a Sniper potmetal hinge frame).

In a pump I have never seen the advantage to a roller sear. I can fine tune a slide trigger/sear just through polishing to get a quick snappy release.

Interesting to see so many people with "meh" opinions on roller sears. To me, they're an absolute requirement to get the best trigger pull. I want the trigger break to be as nonexistent as possible, and a roller sear is the best way to do that. I pair it with a light sear spring and a square cut lug. A regular sear that's been polished, with a rounder lug that's also polished, and a light sear spring will get you close but it's not the same.

To me on a pump it matters far less than on a mech. Mech I'll do a roller sear all day.

Depends on how you set up your trigger. For sliders I’d say roller sear is the way to go if you’re not shortening the pull to the point where is wouldn’t matter
