    ID Hornet Midblock Springing

Just assembled a midblock Hornet all ID internals at the moment.

I have the IVG turned in 2 turns, HPR is in a sweetspot but I dont know the pressure. Ball to bore match is good.

Not shooting over 200 FPS (using my calibrated eyes)

Does anyone have a good ID spring setup for midblock cockers. I have a spring kit on hand and would like to rip on this thing tomorrow.

Thanks in advance. Click image for larger version

Usually you want the 2nd lightest valve spring with 2nd lightest hammer (13 links). I have seen some that prefer the medium weight 11 link hammer spring but all my extended reach builds have used the 11 link I think.

Typically this combination with 250-350 PSI hits full velocity easily.

You need to test your pressure, or have a chronograph available. Preferably both but you can get away with just setting too 300psi and leaving it usually or sweetspotting over a chrono.

I always set them to 200psi and then raise up over the chrono to sweetspot.
Need Inception Designs or Shocktech Products? Let me know!

Thank you. The original owner knew nothing about how threading works or proper tool sizing. He claims to have bought it in 19 threw it together but never put air on it. That all checks out after I tore into it. Im sure the fact that all the front block barbs were trashed is what held him up. Ill be bringing my stuff to the field and try snd get it up to speed. It runs nice just slow FPS. Thanks for that Predator by the way. It is an absolute treasure.

That is a great gun. If you hadn't posted asking for one I would probably never have brought it to sale. I am pleased you are putting it to good use!

Took HPR off like valve ID cocker. Same result. Resprung valve for the 5th time. Still 220 is what im getting. It's a full ID ?2019? Kit build. Im thinking the hammer and valve doesn't have the juice...one of the two. Already shot an email to AKA asking about a bolt I ordered 2 weeks ago maybe they can add a valve to that as well.

Thank you for the help. if im missing something please inform me.

Did you check what bolt is in it? Never saw. There are three versions just in the Inception brand.

        Do you have blowback?
What pressure is your reg set to?

It's an Inception bolt. Just single hole open face type. I dont have blowback. I dont have a reg tester so I sweetspotted over a chrono yesterday. Messed with springs some more. I pulled the reg off the Predator that hasn't been messed with from you. Same problem persists. I have heard some not so great things about the 2019 era 11/16 valves. Im more or less about to pull the trigger on a new valve.

Did you ever get this working? I'm pretty sure all Inception bolts are made to fit onto standard cocker bodies, while Merlin sized upper tubes are larger (includes Inceptions non WGP based bodies). Inception bolts use larger/harder orings to make up the size difference. Using the wrong orings could be the culprit. Like Hellion asked, are you getting a lot of blow back?

I had a V1 Inception valve and it never gave me any trouble besides me nicking an oring while initially installing it. But after replacing that seal it's still being used to this day without issue. I'm just saying I doubt it's the valve giving you the issue.

I have not waiting on the mail. I have a Phat Rat on the way as someone on another forum had recommended. I have messed with every spring combo and discount double checking the HPR. No blowback. I have it timed nicely it rips no problem just at 220 FPS. Everything has been cleaned and re-lubed and reassembled x2. No visual defects either on cup seals or any orings nor leaks.

The PHAT RAT will be much easier to setup than a Tornado valve so that was probably a good move.

In general, Shocktech does not recommend sweetspotting their valve. They use use a light valve spring, medium hammer spring about two full turns in from flush, and always set the velocity using HPR (usually around 200-275psi). It's not the most efficient setup but is also more reliable and headache free.

I was also going to suggest tearing apart the HPR and checking the seals for defects and internals against the manual for a couple reasons but I thought this possibly was ruled out when you swapped the reg from your Predator. While I haven't heard of issues with Inception valves, I have heard of issues with early Inception V1/2 HPR. I think they even required a washer from the stack to be removed in order for the reg to reach certain pressures (look that up for more info, never done it myself). Also, it sounds like the guy who got the Hornet from wasn't the brightest, so he might've lost a part while messing with the reg.

Best of luck, hope the RAT solves it for ya

Thanks i appreciate it. Bearded works also had that same recommendation with the HPR and there is just one extra disk in there. I have a pressure tester in the mail due to me next Thursday so I will be able to verify.

I appreciate the advice. Ill make one last update when its up to speed.
      Working...
