E2 Issues

My E2 will cycle fine for the first few shots on power up but then the ram will stop moving the bolt far enough back to clear the breach. If I wait 10 or so seconds or restart the board it will be fine for a while but eventually return to not moving the bolt enough. I’ve tried newer batteries and different brands that were checked with a battery tester with the same results. I figure it might be a bad capacitor on the board but was curious if these symptoms sound familiar.

Could it be a pneumatic issue and it’s just coincidental that cycling the power fixes it? The LPR is pretty high, when I turn it higher I get leaks from the pneumatics so I don’t think it’s the LPR. I had previously broken down all the pneumatics including the solenoid, cleaned, and relubed everything and it all seemed fine.

Edit: I also tested this in training mode with the clapper noid not being activated with the same results.

Is the top of the capacitor bulging at all?

The capacitor is for the clapper noid, even if it's bad out shouldn't be causing issues with the cocking noid.

To me this sounds like a LPR issue or at least that's how I would approach it first before you go replacing electronics stuff. Basically it sounds like shoot down/low recharge rate.

Here's what I would try first, fire a handful of shots to the point that you encounter this issue, immediately after your final shot grab the bolt pin/back block and pull everything back. If it's super easy to pull back and then begins to become harder and harder to hold back this is most likely a LPR issue. If it's stiff the whole time then it's likely noid/e2

So in the process of inspecting the capacitor earlier, I had moved the wires out of the way to get a good look at it. Before I put the wires back in their place, I made sure the connectors were seated well. Since then, I haven’t been able to reproduce the problem. So possible loose solenoid connector? Even though the problem was gone I did try pulling on the back block both before and after shooting a string and the difficulty seemed the same.

The problem ended up coming back (I.e. the bolt wouldn’t clear the breach) but with a new added symptom, the bolt/ram wouldn’t return to its fully forward position at times.

I did have a spare solenoid and ended up swapping that in, no change, same problems.

Next I connected the outputs from the solenoid to a ram on a second cocker to see if I could isolate if it was a ram or LPR issue. After cycling it several times in training mode, everything seemed to be fine.

I ended up swapping the ram in and it seems to be working fine now.

Examining the problematic ram, it seems the piston o-ring is a bit small, actually seems a bit smaller than the bumpers. I’m guessing it was enough to seal sometimes but leaked under loads. I’ve ordered a rebuild kit from Inception Designs and hopefully that’s the end of it.

Oh yeah if there was a leak involved, out doesn't rule out the cocking solenoid but I'd be pretty surprised if it was the problem

The ram did end up being the problem. I took it to the field today to test it out. Was shooting hot so I had to turn the IVG out to flush and the HPR down from the 300psi I had it set at. Trigger was a bit bouncy but I was fine with it.


Seemed so good during testing I decided to play with it. Worked flawlessly all day.
