    Cocker LP hose Springs

On alot of older cockers the LP hoses had springs/wire around them, Was their an actual reason, other than Aesthetic? Also wondered the Type of Springs they used. Putting together a Pre2k parts bin special and wanted The oldschool covered hose look. For now I just broke a few retractable Pens and took the Springs from them....

It pevent kinks in the small hoses (avoid airflow resistance) and yes I'm sure pencil spring will be the cheapest option

I read that the hoses were installed to avoid hose blow-outs due to the original WGP LPR being so unreliable. Normally the springs had a lot more coils, covering most of surface area of the hose and reinforcing it. I think the info was on Bacci's paintball history website but I can't find it now.

This is true. When someone would get new Cockers, we had a list of things to do to them to get them running better. Replace the stock LPR with a Palmer Rock reg, Air America expansion chamber, drill & install ball detents, replace ram with a Clippard ram and smooth up the trigger, and replace the springs. When we replaced the LPR, those springs would get thrown into the box of misc paintball debris that people would collect.
They looked cool, but were a pain sometimes if they got a kink in them.
        This was around 1993-1994 timeframe.
Our 10 man team ran Cockers for tournament play and the captain, who also ran the local paintball field insisted everyone have the same setup.
