This was a way more involved process than I thought. I felt crazy heating up the ram over a torch then having to go to home depot to buy vice grips. Then using an old inner tube to try not to scratch it up but it to be so tight that the teeth of the wrench to bit through the tube and scratch it up anyways. Then getting that stupid 006 O-ring out. Hopefully I’ll never have to do this again.😆

I heated it up on 3 separate occasions thinking each time it should be plenty hot enough

I have a small lighter like what you have and I realise it wont put out enough heat, so I take it to the kitchen stove. My wife isn't a fan of the smell so I have to choose the right time to do it.

Random flat wood in vice, ram between wood.

Strap wrenches are a nice one to have too, though sometimes they don't have quite the oomph needed, the plier mittens look like a good alternative.

softjaw vice and that innertube would work nicely. Just a harbor freight heat gun does the trick. I have yet to pull out the torch for a ram.

                  Ov’glove!

Because after I torch it up it’s hot. I’ve melted stuff including my hand.

Wood block I think is a wonderful idea, I just don’t have any wood scraps around. I’m gonna get some thought. The thought that the wood gives a little bit but it’s an organic surface that won’t scratch.

My advice is to get it in the vice tight as balls. You can scuff the anno if it turns but as long as it doesn't turn typically the wood won't leave any marks

It's overkill but having a lathe just for the chuck to grip round parts like this is super useful
