    Micro Rock Leak

I just aired up my '03 Black Magic and discovered a leak in the Palmers Micro Rock LPR at the seam. Is this something I can fix, leaving the back part attached to the front block, or do I need to remove the whole thing for disassembly?

It's a steady leak that fluctuates with the LPR adjustment. Is it the reg seat, or just the oring between the body segments? Click image for larger version

The tube of the body unscrews from that section. There is an oring inside.
Easier to unscrew after removing the adjustment screw.
Might be stuck based on the age.

Theoretically you shouldn't need to remove the 1/8th section from the front block. But it might just come unscrewed anyway if the parts are stuck, so I usually just remove it.

It's possible to screw the front portion off the base but I'm my experience if it's still sealed from the factory it is usually pretty difficult. If you have already taken it apart at some point I'd much easier to do. This is why whenever I get something like this even new I take it apart to put the body on the base hand tight so I can get it apart easier later

Also why I like the jackhammer lpr. The body uses set screws to hold it onto the base so you don't even need to spin it off and can leave the barb on

Mmmm the older jackhammers that look like the body of a micro-rock are quite excellent.

Had a similar leak with my micro rock. You have to remove the LPR from the gun ideally or at least hold the plated 1/8" NPT nipple into the front block and thread the body off of it. The nipple that goes into the front block retains the schrader valve and seat so don't lose those. You'll need to make a special tool with a bolt, nut and washers to hold the rear cap to thread it off.

In case the back of the LPR doesn't unscrew easily, I have the bolt, nuts, and split washer being delivered soon.

Somebody on here was offering an upgraded seal kit for the micro rock but I can't remember who. I want to say super staunchy or SLPS but I can't recall.

Must have IMO. It had brightly colored O-rings that fixed the issues I was having with standard o-rings leaking.

Following the steps in a video from PBTek, I was able to disassemble the reg and I replaced all of the seals (except the reg seat). I oiled everything, put it all back to together, and reinstalled. But I still have a leak at this seam, just slower now. ☹

What's interesting is the reg's internals were greased, not oiled. Is that typical or maybe why the seal failed?
