Hello fellow paintball nerds! Today I come to you asking if the Bob Long MVP (with PVN mods) is worth trying to find for today's asking prices ($1300ish). I have three snipers and a phantom which I absolutely love playing with. I've used one MVP that wasn't PVN modded and it felt amazing to play with but definitely has some issues. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

My opinion no. Even with the PVN mod. I will take a CCM over it any day of the week. If you already have a high end pump it wouldnāt hurt adding one for something different but I wouldnāt choose one over any of the other $1300 options.
My biggest gripe is the need for a dedicated low pressure reg.
They shoot nice when modified I wouldnāt even consider one that wasnāt. Like if CCM made a open class Phantom. There cool unique but I sold mine and donāt regret it. -
I put them in the same category as CCM's (if modified) and those are selling in that price range.Comment

At the end of the day, its you who will be using it, so if you like it (and can afford it š ) go for it!Love my brass ... Love my SSR ... Hard choices ...

Might as well weigh in. I'm one of the folks who thinks a modded MVP possesses the finest ergonomics of any pump available. It shots like an extention of my arm, has the best trigger around, pump stroke is decent. I've run 850 to 250 psi into mine without issues. Honestly, who has 3 - 5 markers these days without having a 2nd tank? My preference is a 17/3k with a Myth reg or a cheap Chinese copy. Back the main spring off a bit if you care to. Mine has been getting 550 psi for most of the last 5 years, it didn't care. Tank/reg costed like $65, gets 220 shots (modded Winny plus 3 50rd pods), perfect tank length.
I when I got my first CCM, a T2, I felt a little let down. I was happy with with the halfblock sniper I had built and couldn't find a single way the CCM was better.
Just my thoughts. Just like CCM folks tend to really focus on the pump stroke and Phantom users like their lighter more ergonomic package, I'm in the latter group.Comment

I have had two with the PVN mods. For whatever reason, they just didn't click with me. On paper, it should be the perfect gun. Pump stroke is nice, ergonomics are great, UC setup gives a great line of sight down the gun, no hoses, and the trigger is super crisp. It was kind of one of those scenarios where you get your dream thing, and it just isn't what you thought it would be, but you can't pin down why.
I have owned a ton of high end pumps, and for the money, I would prefer to go with a CCM or Inception gun.Comment

As a player, it's a very nice platform. If it was a game changer it would still be in production.
If you're s collector the itch to have one won't go away until you get one.
If you're a gunwhore once you get it you'll it to have something else because it's not perfect. That itch is just a constant. It never gets scratched.Comment

Just a side note - Ummm those are not just Snipers you have. They are all top shelf builds to perfection . That being said I have no opinion on your original question because Iāve only seen an MVP never held one.

When they were sub $1000 yeah sure! Now? No.
Honestly I loved the way mine felt and pointed but it's quirks out weighed the good.
- hammer bounce was miserable
- If you under bored or paint swelled I humid times it could end up recocking itself if you didn't hold the pump - the sear lock point was all the way in the back of the stroke which was already long compared to a tuned sniper
- the tiny proprietary grip frame screws which were easy to strip out and prone to loosening
- the tiny non captured air passage oring that would evaporate if the frame got loose

ChuckLove I know youāve already decided against it, but I still have to throw my opinion in the ring here for anyone lurking in the future.
I own both a PVN MVP and a RF/CF T2. Bought both years before inflation destroyed the cost of everything. If I had to choose one pump to use the rest of my life, itās this MVP. The T2 is going up for sale when I stop being lazy, as I practically stopped using it after I bought the MVP.
I canāt really speak for a stock MVP, as I bought it new and immediately hit up PVN for the mod, but everything about this gun is just great to me. Iām one of those people who actually clean their gear and taking apart the MVP is head and shoulders less tedious to break down than any T2 or AC to actually clean and service. I cannot emphasize that point enough. The trigger? A satisfying, clean break. Practically 0 slop and take up. Autotrigger? Works flawlessly. The reg? Noticeably more consistent than any CCM reg Iāve had on my SS-25 or T2s.
I know the older MVPs had a sear issue that caused problems, but Iāve an updated sear and have had 0 problems. Small pump handle? A bit, yeah, especially if you have larger hands, but I solved this issue by having oDm make one of them slick, larger handles he makes for everything. The vibration of the gun loosening screws? I solved this by using a teeny tiny bit of purple thread locker. T2s arenāt immune to loosening screws, either. If you donāt use thread locker on the T2 top tube it will come loose. Humidity and paint? I'm in 100% ass humidity San Antonio, TX and never had issues with humidity and swelling paint. As to why someone is shooting an MVP without holding the pump handle, this is beyond me. I guess it can have issues? Iāll have to give that a try the next time Iām at the field. If needing to buy a LP reg or adjust a reg to low pressure to work with the gun is a knock against it, uh, I guess so. This was never a problem for me as every tank reg I own is adjustable.
The MVP has a more ātactileā feel compared to my T2. Along with the superb trigger, pumping and feeling the sled slide on bearings is extremely satisfying. I wish these things were still made as I'd buy a second and PVN it up in a heartbeat. I guess the good thing is anyone who buys an MVP nowadays can probably sell it for exactly what they paid for it, if they don't like it. But $1K + for a stock MVP? Pass.
