    Nostalgic Evening (Stingray 2)

After a great night of testing some new things, I had a pretty dead tank. For S&G, the Stingray 2 I got brand new back in 2000 caught my eye. Haven't shot it in years. Thought, why not try to air it up and see if she would cycle? I was quite surprised with the result. The plastic body was as clunky as I remember, the trigger pull still arduous, and the fire rate atrocious. That being said, didn't leak a drop of air and fired 100 balls or so with 1000psi in the tank. I was speechless, laughing hysterically like my 13 year old self. In the back of my mind I always thought, mehh cheep junk when I moved to better markers. Funny how perspective changes with age. Sorry for the rambling. Just thought I'd share a nostalgic experience.

MCB, If you feel so inclined, share a nostalgic experience you have had in this wild world of paintball!

PS. Looks wild as hell with the 68/45 and a revvy.

Ah the fun that could be had if you could convince everyone to play with just a pump or Stingray-level semi. These things are tanks and I can’t believe how bad some of them can look inside and still work

They are severely underrated markers that get a ton of flak ,but honestly they are durable as hell

Man… my first marker when I was 13 was also the stingray 2 with the 12in barrel. I would play with my cousin in law in a home made bush ball setting where he would rock an autococker. That was what hooked me 25 years 💪.

I lack the intelligence or ego to care what people think. Playing with the Expandable group of misfits allows me to be my crazy self. So, I often field some of the most maligned vintage markers. Yes, I have played with BE Eagle 68, Stingrays, Tiger Sharks and Vulcan plastic pumps. I have fielded a Splatmaster at Super Game. There is nothing more satisfying, than competing with these relics. Sometimes nothing more fun than getting an elimination with a marker that everyone is sure is a pos. Dig out that old favorite or very first marker, clean it up, air it up and go play like you are 12 again.

A buddy in highschool had one - it was a tank. It finally stopped recocking after many weekends of abuse at our little outlaw field we'd built at another friend's house, but a liberal application of some oil (10w30, maybe?) we found in a shed got it going again.

BE built lots of great stuff.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

Sometimes I wonder how life would be different if I first had a Stingray instead of a Raptor.

I dug out my old Stingray (the OG model with the barrel sheath) about 3 years ago. It had visible rust on the hammer, the cocking screw was seized, but everything else seemed in order. So for shits, I dropped some oil in the ASA, and some on the hammer through the window for good measure, and the damn thing cycled like it was brand new.

So I did what you did. Shot about a hopper of paint through it, laughed in disbelief, then put it back away so I can see how it does in another 20-something years.

Hell yea brother! The involuntary l laugh in disbelief is a special one indeed. Had another one last night with a project I finally got working properly. Gotta love the paintball life.

Yeah, but paintball led to my engineering education, if I tinkered with Stingrays more, maybe I would've become a machinist.
