So I gutted the HPR, and now want to install an external LPR. How do I prevent air from going into the stock LPR? just plug the connecting hole, or the hole that went to the hose? Seems like the obvious thing to do, but sometimes better to just ask someone that's done this.

Easiest way?
Unscrew the hose barb and plug with a short bottomline screw, or anything that's got 10-32 threads. That way it's reversible if you ever want to reuse the stock LPR.
Make sure you put some loctite on whatever you use as a plug. -
