Well I have a mini buzzard (all aluminum, no collar, slide trigger) with the AT problem. What are the things I should be looking at? Is this just an alignment issue with the body?

Likely an alignment issue. Carters tolerances are very inconsistent. You take them apart they often need to be just right when they go back together. Also be careful with the mount screws often they are just screwed directly into anodized aluminum they are easily stripped. Most of the ones I had i went through and added stainless threaded inserts and Red locked them into the mount holes to prevent issues. This allows for getting them just right and keeping them there. It’s pretty much the custom nature of each piece he made.
I would make sure the screw that actuated the sear is properly alined and hasn’t come loose. There might be some adjustments inside the trigger group as well. Kind of have to play around with them till you get them right. Some are more difficult than others.
I would first Try loosening the frame screws and sliding the frame forward or backwards on the screws tighten it down in each position first see what way it works best. When you get it right remember for next time so you can repeat it after a good cleaning service.
