Phantom upgrades available?

Hey guys,

I am looking for advice on what upgrades may be available to improve the phantom. I have a vsc at the moment. I got the barrel bored for inserts, switched to a 1200 psi gause valve body, got a rainmaker kit and a trigger shoe and that is about it.

I am planning on adding an asa i can switch from vsc to air with a quick adaptor, macro line and asa.

. Hopefully there are upgrades to help efficiency and more shots etc.

. Any advice or input is appreciated as with the server crash, info is a little harder to find for me.

What you've done is pretty much all you can do. Mike Cassidy took all the popular mods for Nelson pump and incorporated them into the Phantom. You may be able to eek a couple more shots out of a 12g by careful tuning of the power tube and hammer weight but then it becomes more temperamental to ambient temperature and harder to get field velocity if it gets too hot or cold out.

Basically, just enjoy it and get faster at changing 12grams.

Gabe nailed it on the head. If you keep the vertical feed setup with an Asa you can throw on a ICD lever changer and your in business for quick changing 12’s or can simply unscrew it and thread on a tank.

Regulators are always nice, but some would argue they're overkill.

Play it and see what you like and what you would like to change. With the Phantom you can configure in so many ways to suit your playing style. The bigest thing the Phantom needs is some form of detent and you essentially have that covered with your freak bored barrel.

An underbored freak barrel will take care of rollouts, but not double-feeds.

The gun ships more or less perfect with user preference and roll-outs being the main things people spend $$$ on. Nothing you spend on “efficiency” will ever pay for itself. Switching from CO2 to HPA may not be as “quick” as changing some parts but a Phantom will get 1000 shots from a 9oz CO2 tank so consider CO2-only if it’s still available in your area. I don’t know what a Rainmaker is.

Depending what you're tuning it for.. I have a lightened hammer and a bigger flow powertube (I forget if it's the lapco 4 or 6) and get a decent bit more shots on 12 grams.. However I usually run HPA nowadays since it's been a lot warmer here (Southern California).

Get a spring kit if you can, but it seems you've got plenty done already in terms of the phantom!

Oh ALSO Macroline will not improve your efficiency, you'll want as small areas as possible for the devolumization aspect. Keep that hardline, some folks even put wire in that hardline too. Potentially a check valve if running 12 grams so you don't completely de-gas when changing between a fresh 12 gram?

A couple of my favorite "upgrades" to the Phantom are unseen upgrades; the aggroman pump shim, small washers to take up the small space between the frame and the trigger, a check valve integrated into the VASA, a wire stuffed into the hardline to take up space., and a valve insert to slightly diffuse the co2 coming into the valve body.
Even before all that I was still very happy with the Phantom as-is.

The aggroman pump shim is really really worth it. It takes sooo much slop out of the pump action. Highly recommended.

There are a few options to deal with roll outs, but I find as long as you have decent paint and a freak bored barrel, underboring with the inserts works just fine. Just make sure you pump fast enough to avoid double feeds.

I made my own pump shim by using a couple spent 22 LR casings. Grind the primer side off and they fit perfectly in the pump channel and over the pump arm. Works flawlessly and it is super cheap. My pump stroke is 1000% better.

ASP detent and anti-double feed mod is awesome too. Way better than detent rings.

A good paint to bore match will increase efficiency. I also shimmed my valve to maximize 12 gram efficiency.

Finally, a roller bearing trigger is a nice touch. Really makes for a smooth trigger pull. (I sure do miss the feel of my gargoyle trigger grouped phantom though)

The macro line would only be used in conjunction with a large air tank..as id be using a threaded piece with macro qd to go to a bottom asa with tank screwed in. I do hear you on the smaller volume in regards to efficency when using smaller co2 etc.

I do have a cci spring kit and little spare parts kit. Also the cci detent rings.

I am curious how guys tune these? I thought the only thing to adjust was velocity?

I will look at the aggroman mod and the asp detent mod/anti dbl feed mod.

what roller bearing trigger do you use? The wraith?

Is the staunchly bolt fluting worth it?

I have an old Palmers a5 male stab reg I could I could try out...prob won't tho.

I mean if it's shooting fine and you're gonna run in HPA/large air tank, then keep it as is? Performance mods won't really be necessary when running large tanks anyway. Things like fluting/etc are overkill unless you want to do it for the sake of doing it. Stock internals work wonderfully on the phantom. Maybe for consistency just look into regulated air, and if you're running HPA tank, that's already regulated at high pressure. You're set! But if wanting consistency on 12 grams, then sideline stabilizer (or CART 12 Gram Regulator) for those warmer days.

You can only adjust velocity, yes. This is because the gun was born tuned.

I would replace that grip. Everything else is probably fine.

zeta...na man the dye sticky grips are awesome. I do have some empire lady ones too for 45.

I do have a matching feed tube but do norm just do the jam. Recently got an tipx mag converter too

I just picked up my first Phantom and have a question about the 45 grip frame. Does anyone else find it slightly long? I know I've had this for all of two days but find with the wrap around grips that the gap between the bottom of the trigger and the swells of the bottom two fingers is too far. It has the basic wrap around grips so maybe others are better. I will probably end up making myself some anyway.

I had a pair years ago and wasn't really a fan of them. It's more the positioning of my hand here than anything.

I use the hogue palm swell grips. The ones that don’t wrap around The front. I’m pretty sure that all wrap around grips will sit too low on a phantom.

I agree, they are all standard sizes. I will make some eventually and can put the grooves where I want them.
