I run nitro. What’s the best spring combination that you have found to get consistently 280 ft./s plus an extremely smooth pump stroke? I just got a spring kit for the phantom.

Stock silver springs for HPA Bulk co2 and 12g. Keep your HPA input pressure as close to 825psi as you can and you won’t even need to adjust much if at all when swapping air sources.

The problem is that it seems like I have to screw in the adjustment screw all the way in order to get 260 FPS.

The only way to get a Phantom to smooth out is use. The more you use them the smoother they get. They break in. It will always have a stiffer pump stroke compared to say a Sniper/Sterling. But the pump stroke should be smooth. Keep your internals clean and free of dirt, grime, oil build up from cheap 12g, and old paint. Lightly oil don’t over do it just enough to make the parts look wet. Stock silver springs approx. 2.5 turns in on the TPC from flush. Good paint to bore match. 825-850ish unregulated tank pressure direct should put you right in the ball park of 280FPS with 20fps+\- up or down.
Few issues you could be having:
Insure the valve body is pushed up tight to the body of the marker. If there is a small gap it will still fire but at a low velocity.
Insure you have a good paint to bore match and you are not getting roll outs. ASP detents work amazing. Extreme offers them as a factory option now. Paint is much smaller today if you are using an older fixed bore phantom barrel. It might be worth while looking for a newer barrel the offer them in a smaller overall bore that will help a lot with efficiency. Especially with todays small paint.
Insure your bolt tip oring is intact and properly sealing on the barrel face. If your pump rod is not correctly adjusted it won’t seal properly on the face of the inner barrel bore.
Insure your tank output pressure is at least 800-850psi you may need to test it to be 100% sure.
You can compensate for lower HPA tank pressure by using the stiffer spring in the phantom spring kit. However when swapping air source to say 12g or bulk Co2 you will need to swap springs back. (This is not the best way IMO because if you setup the Phantom the proper way. It will run perfectly on the stock silvers and run both without having to disassemble the marker. Also if you setup the marker on the stock silver springs it will get amazing efficiency for 12g play)

“Smooth” and “light” are different things. Lighter springs mean a lighter stroke but “smooth” is a product of the basic design and the current condition of the gun. As has been said, Phantoms will never be Sniper light or smooth but when clean and fully broken in they are nice.

I had one that came to me looking like it sat in a bucket of water for a few years. Definitely left outside for a while. I was able to clean that marker up replaced the springs cleaned the rust off the stainless parts they were pitted pretty bad. But after a lil hand polish and a good cleaning it’s shot great and got over 42 shots off a 12g. It was actually a really smooth shooting phantom.
