    High velocity ?!

    I just buy me my first CCI Phantom, pretty good shape but he had a small leak so I flip the cup seal and it's ok.
    But after my first shot I notice he's pretty loud... He shoot at 390fps !!
    I use it with HPA at 800psi (tested), blue spring.

    When I break it down I notice that the hammer was drill with several holes.

    Did I just buy a modified phantom for low pressure?

      Sounds like you got a used Phantom someone was attempting to setup to run lower pressure and/or run on HPA. CO2 provides more energy at a given pressure then HPA so setting up a Nelson Clone (Phantom) to run well on HPA takes a little bit of re-springing. Why they drilled holes in the hammer is to lighten the hammer in I suppose an attempt to make a light weight hammer to try and get a finer tune for "efficiency" (not really worth the effort). I would replace the hammer with an unmodified hammer and get a stock set of springs (or a selection of other compression springs to work with) and work at getting it back to a stock configuration. Over the years many players have tried modifying the Phantom's valve train with really little stable improvement. Really the stock valve train is going to be your most reliable setup and if you need small changes in springs to get it in the adjustable range you want ends up being the best.

        With 800psi HPA input you should use the silver springs. Approx 2 turns in from flush on the TPC should get you super close.

        Depending on what internals you have may change that. An in-line reg would also change that as well. By holes do you mean slots?

        Some people thought reducing the hammer’s weight would help efficiency or the slots would reduce drag on the body. In the end It just required more spring pressure to counter the loss in hammer mass and you had to rebalance everything with different springs.

        If it were mine I would put the stock internals in it with the stock silver springs. I have tried various spring and hammer combos I haven’t found ones that perform any better without sacrificing adjustability. Stock Silver springs can run HPA and 12g without having to change springs and gets best in SC, 12g efficiency. Why mess with that?

          Seriously tho you know how many I have fixed with just a simple spring swap and a good cleaning. I get them all the time like that. I got one on the bench now waiting on parts. Brand new EV build someone put a reg on and couldn’t get it to work sold it to a friend who also couldn’t get it to work. Took the CP reg off put Sliver springs in it and cleaned it because nobody ever oiled the thing. It’s now getting 40+ shots to a 12g and running 800psi HPA direct with a -10fps difference running HPA. A good cleaning, lil Oil, and Silver springs = Phantom perfection #ChangeMyMind ☕️

          When I ordered mine brand new from EV, I mentioned that I would be running HPA with a tank output of 800psi. So EV installed a red hammer spring accordingly. I believe you regarding the silver/silver combo, but I'm a bit puzzled as to why EV would put a stronger spring on purpose if the stock combo does the trick.

          I've got an order from EV (stuck at customs for the last 3 weeks...) which includes a spares kit with different spring, so I'll definitely conduct a few experiments once it arrives.

          Chuck is the phantom whisperer. As to the spring, EV likes red. Bought a rear frame screw from them. Came with red loctite on it.

        Thank you for all your answers, I'll try to make you some pics of the internals.
        I just realise that the power tube was modified to, just like if the holes were drill bigger.

        So I will make some orders to Phantomonline, hope he send to Europe. I've contact a local dealer to see if had some parts to.

              Yeah someone tried talking some weight off that setup. I recommend ordering some new internals and some fresh silver springs. It will shoot remarkably better.

                    Well you could always reduce tank input pressure to get it down below 300fps. But it will be an HPA only setup.

                      At first I thought it was cool to use low pressure but actually I prefer to use all my Hpa tanks at standard pressure for simplicity

                        I would just throw some new internals in what you got then. It’s definitely your best bet for simplicity. Pretty much set it and forget it after you do.

                      Some little news, I just receive a new power tube and install it but all my tanks are empty, I'll chrono it later.

                      But after the swap I notice a leak between the frame and the valve at the rear thumbscrew (oring is new). I put some Teflon tape on the thumbscrew and it's fix. Is this normal ? Should I always make this, I didn't notice if there was something on this screw when I disassembly it.

                        That sounds reasonable that the previous owner wanted to do a gas through modification. There should be enough room to fill the hole with a grub screw and some Loctite red and still be able to use the original frame screw to hold the frame.

                      Whenever someone has any problem with a Phantom (almost any Nelson, really) the fix is %99.99 of the time “return it to stock”.

                      Whoever did this pointless work (almost certainly a member here) was on the fringes of science. Drilled out hammers make no sense on any level and Phantoms are famous for being able to switch between CO2 and air with just the velocity adjustor. He wasted a weekend and now you need parts. Hopefully someone learns a lesson. You can easily make a Phantom more complicated but it’s profoundly harder to actually make it better.
