so I have an old nice phantom I'm going to get parts to convert over to open play when not using it for stock. How does it do on HPA? I was looking at getting like a 13/3000 but how many shots would that get me? would it be better and simpler to get a smaller c02 tank to run on it?

Phantom on HPA or c02?

HPA works fine with minimal tuning, just make sure the tank is outputting 850-900psi. That should only require some mild adjustment of the TPC with stock silver springs. While I have some small Co2 bottles, almost no fields seem to fill them anymore, so I picked up a 9ci tank for running vertically if I want to on the VSC.

Co2 definitely has a lower sound signature than HPA you will get more shots off a smaller package with a small co2 tank. However it can be hard to get filled. I run a 9ci HPA and I get over 150shots off it on a hot 3k fill at 280 fps. It’s way more convenient. I recommend a 9ci for a stick fed phantom. It’s so tiny you don’t know it’s there. A 13ci is good for a 50 round hopper setup. The carbon fiber first strike 13ci that are 4500 will give you plenty of air if you think you need more.
As long as your input tank reg pressure is 800-825psi you will get 280-300fps on stock silver springs with a good bore match on HPA and Co2. Phantoms run great on HPA.

Yeah I like the 9ci off the Vertical ASA. If I set one up off a grip frame ASA I would probably go with a 13/17ci depending on how long your forearms are. You can run a 13ci off the Vert Asa and it’s not to unwieldy but I definitely prefer the 9ci running it that way. I think Ninja just dropped new 9ci 3k I seen some in my local pro shop. The ninja regs that come on them are rock solid and I’m pretty sure they are already set to 800psi factory so they will work great on the Phantom out of the box if you want to go that route. Oh lifetime hydro on those lil aluminum 3k 2” round tanks to so the value is hard to beat.
