Phreak barrels - GOG discontinued the inserts

I just learnt that after 20+ years GOG discontinued the 'old school' 5" Freak inserts. They're only producing the Freak XL inserts now. As far as I'm aware, Empire also discontinued the 5" inserts. I guess that 'Phreak' barrels will become a thing of the past eventually?
"Aren't you getting too old for this??"
    "Nope."

Eventually, but with 20 years worth of inserts in the used market I'm pretty sure we'll be dead by the time that happens.
And God turned to Gabriel and said: “I shall create a land called Canada of outstanding natural beauty, with majestic mountains soaring with eagles, sparkling lakes abundant with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, and rivers stocked with salmon. I shall make the land rich in oil so the inhabitants prosper and call them Canadians, and they shall be praised as the friendliest of all people.”

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

And God replied, “Just wait and see the neighbors I shall inflict upon them."

ANS sells stainless 5" inserts for 15 shipped each, and aluminum are even cheaper. Plus there's already a billion out there. But when you can get Inception Stella backs for $10 each (matte black/AC threads) inserts seem silly!

Sometimes times this is where the Chyna knock off market is handy. Also McMasterCarr + pipe cutter.

You mean my inserts might actually be worth something again?! If only paint became large enough.

Just means that the opportunity for some sized brass inserts is here again. Hallelujah!

Or wedgited 680 and 685 inserts in brass. Should have bought those when I had the chance.
Need Inception Designs or Shocktech Products? Let me know!

no kidding! i sold a few aluminum barrels I had PPS wedgit for me...so stupid of me. I've started contacting machinists about offering the service now that PPS is gone. There is def a market for them, esp when we get poor quality paint that cannot be underbored without breaking.

Tycmeer had offered brass inserts. I don’t believe I have seen him on MCB 2.0?

I have enough insert kits laying around to keep the market flooded for years......

I was wondering why it was getting harder to find 5" inserts. I had to buy an 8" and cut it down

Didn't the patent on these things just expire?

I’d have to imagine it’s been expired for a few years at least. What is it 15 years for a patent and freaks have been on the market since 03/04 roughly.

Even before that. I recall buying a Freak kit around 2001 for either my Angel or Shoebox Shocker.

If there's enough of a demand in 15 years, someone will start producing inserts again.

Hell by then maybe you can just print them at home with +/- .0001 tolerance
