    Prototype day!

I love when that FedEx notification comes through.

I made a printed prototype of a frame. With the Phantom 2.0 being a bit of a bust, I decided to take another go at it. Still wondering if I should pressure-test this one, or if it's better to wait for one in aluminum.

If nothing else, I made a frame that has a proper radius for my thumb web, and takes standard 1911 grips instead of having holes that are 0.040" too close together. I'm calling it a win either way!

    Off to do some math.

I have a 2.0 frame/ valve that has been plugged for a VSC setup. LMK if you want to experiment on it. I think it needs more volume. Let me know if you want to try and improve the design and make it work. I been considering throwing it up on eBay since I won’t use it, I got it to work on HPA bit 12g it chokes and gets terrible efficiency. If you want to give it a go LMK I will send it to you. I love the look but the performance is dog water.

I appreciate it, but I think I know enough about how they built it to know not to go that route. That's what convinced me to go with a full frame, instead of small modifications here and there.

Curious, though... how big of a deal is it to go VSC instead of bottomline? I don't have any provisions in this one for VSC, but I haven't finalized anything. Wondering if that's a deal breaker for people.

For me I definitely prefer a VSC setup for Stock Class. It would be cool to have the option not a deal breaker. However, I do find I get better efficiency when a 12g sits vertically vs horizontally especially the closer it is to the valve. I like having my changers and such out front of the grip as I don't have to take my eyes off target on a change out, and I don't have to remove the marker from my shoulder and drop to change. I only use a bottom-line setup for open class if I have the choice but it's really just my personal preference. Not sure if it's a deal breaker for others but I do think VSC is definitely a popular setup. Especially when it comes to Phantom users. It's definitely what sold me on the 2.0 Phantom frame. (Unfortunately, that was a flop out of the box)

That being said I like the profile of that frame it looks very comfortable to shoot I would give one a try regardless. I love new Phantom goodies.

So what you are saying is that instead of horizontal co2 adapter or VSC we need vertical in-grip co2 changer in a one piece frame. Would get the charger closer to the valve and keeps it vertical.

Update - with all the speed of trying to design around small children.

Pretty easy to mod a CP ASA to put gas into the frame. It's a single o-ring on a nipple.

The valve, I went a little fancier. I added a boss for the frame to seal against, under the idea that it would still be easy to field strip without undoing the front screw. It leaks on the current, printed version but I think aluminum will be quite a bit smoother. Maybe some silicone glue on the gland face will cover the little cracks so I can field test it. I think a nipple will be more robust, but it would require dropping the whole frame to remove the valve.

I'm thinking of running a VASA hose through the trigger guard into the internal gas line but that's probably a phase 2 thing.

Swapping the -005 for a 4mmx2mm fixed that leak nicely.
Working...
