Two points.
"It's long been said that familiarity with your equipment is more important than what that equipment is."
Only by using a piece of equipment does one become familiar with it and by using it often. I would say skills are learned.
Repetition not only creates muscle memory but affects the equipment, bringing my second point.
"Phantoms don't wear out ~ They wear in"
I've heard complaints that Phantoms have a stiff pump stroke. Which can be true.
From the factory, tolerances are extremely tight. With use, those "pinch points" smooth out and the pump stroke can be like butter.
And yes, it requires more than a single case of paint. That 2000 case of 12g's is closer.
It's a process that takes some time. During which you figure out what works best for you.
I might mention that various extraneous things like sights, stocks, barrels are a matter of personal preference. It's what's inside that counts.
Sometimes you swap out springs, maybe a different weight hammer. And each time the process starts over.
Personally, my favorite is an all original VSC, has a JCS folding stock and custom hand-carved walnut grip.
