    Reliability of the CCM pumps?

I couldn’t think of a good title but this kinda of lines up with reliability. I have a really good t2 I use it every weekend I play but I have been thinking of getting another for a backup just in case. But I never really have problems with my current t2.

Any thoughts to reasons to have a second or not have a second CCM pump?

Thought on the reliability of the CCM pumps?

no that is silly, you don't need another T2 for a back-up. You need 3-5 more to keep your current T2 company... because ccm markers get lonely.

Sure why not, get three. It’s your money. Lol. They are super reliable; like any well make Autococker should be. Eventually an oring could go out, cup seal has issues, dirt in lower tube, something gets loose, and whala it ain’t working anymore. I play pretty regularly and think this happens maybe every 3-5 years. I typically just wipe things down and don’t relube or go through until issues start (started getting better at regular maintenance). I do have a lower tube block sled to keep dirt out.

I typically wouldn’t buy a ccm as a backup to a ccm; as they are pricey; but they are one of the few markers that hold prices or even go up. So cheap pump cocker as backup or nice ccm (which hopefully retains value). I do have two ccm pumps btw. One sits in my room and I bring a cheap pump as backup typically.

    your experience may differ.

CCM are very reliable when they are setup properly and not messed with. T2 / S6.5 will often require more cleaning due to the exposed lower internal slot over say a full block. But you can go several years without cleaning anything right BLachance75 lol

My S6 gets cleaned appropriately once every 10 years. I’m not joking about that either. It is often put away either dirty or with a quick wipe down and will sit that way until used again. I haven’t had to replace anything on it in the 15ish years that I’ve had it. For a while I was probably putting 15-20 cases a year through it.

Every marker will eventually fail, and that usually happens when you are at a field getting ready to play; having a reliable backup is prudent. Many moons ago, I got my equipment down to just a large laptop bag with my goggles hanging from the outside in a semi-hard case. At the time, I was using just my Pyre because I liked how it played and felt, and it never let me down. That is, until I went a significant distance to an outlaw field with a large group, and before even playing the first game. My reg seat gave way and was leaking by. Now everyone is trying to get the first game rolling and me without a working marker. Ended up borrowing someone else's backup and got to play, but learned my lesson: always have a dependable backup in your kit.

Side note, I have had my Pyre since 2008, and that was the first time I had to do any maintenance to it [circa 2014], and now I have to rebuild the regulator again in 2025 (it gave out early Aug). My Pyre is exceptionally reliable, but any device with wear parts will inevitably experience failures. Closing on 18 years for my Pyre and only two failures, pretty good just as good if not better than any CCM I've owned.

I hose mine off and every couple of years ill pull the valve, replace the cup seal oring, reloctite and change all the orings. Only issue i remember having at an event with mine was a leaking fitting.

I think if you get a J12 for a back up, just in the rare instance that your T2 gives you a problem every 5-7 years without any maintenance, you will be well served.

There was a dude at my field that brought a j12 one day. It was cool. Not sure I like it more than my t2

I suggest you try a few well tuned CCM models before you jump into a $4k + collector CCM.

I would not spend 2-3x the price of a nice CCM for a J12 personally. I highly recommend you try one first if you can even find one.

It’s not my jam. A guy at my field had one. I just didn’t like it. Love my T2
