I saw this painted T2 come up for sale on Ebay earlier this week and figured it was worth the gamble. 750 all in for a T2 is really good, but I definitely had my work cut out for me. The previous owner wanted a tropical theme gun and rather than spend the money on a custom ano first painted with grey primer and then painted the parts all different colors with spray paint. That paint got on the hammer lug, on the trigger, the pins, in the threads, pretty much everywhere on the gun.
I tore everything down parts wise first and then soaked everything in water to loosen things up. Then I moved onto an acetone bath, that really got the paint off the gun. Once the paint was coming off, I thought I was seeing bare metal below the ano with the grey color on the blue parts. No, it was a thick layer of primer that was an absolute pain to get off, spent a couple hours scrubbing with acetone and q tips to get all the primer and paint off.
Gave the gun a full rebuild and she airs up no leaks as is, I'm gonna give her a tune when I get a chance.
I got lucky on this one. there was a distinct possibility the parts were sanded and the ano ruined prior to the paint job, but luckily they didn't go that in depth. The gun also came with the full barrel back set, 675 to 691, 7 matching backs and the 14" front.
Really cool having a T2 again, the ano looks to be a battleship grey and light matte blue. The grey almost looks hard anodized, but love it all the same. As far as time goes, I probably have 6-8 hours into the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly process. Was a perfect project for the rainy day today. I'm not gonna lie, that was a lot of work and might not have been worth it to some, but I'm glad I stuck with it and brought this one back to life.
Here's some before, during, and after pics.
