FX OLED…

I have pretty much no experience with the FX other than the one i had briefly that i got from a guy i used to play with (he gave it to me thinking the board was dead but only the OLED was dead so i gave it back to him). Knowing that the majority of FX screens are dead & have been for a long time, if you run across one with a working screen, what does that mean? Is it still more than likely on borrowed time? Could it be possible that the fact that it’s survived this long when most others didn’t mean that whatever defect plagued these screens didn’t affect the handful that are still going strong? I kind of fell in love with the thing in the short amount of time i had my hands on it. I’d like to maybe get another & it would be great to have a functioning OLED. It’s a real shame Dangerous Power couldn’t get a handle on their quality control because the FX could have been a real winner.

There was a guy a few years ago that came into possession of NOS screens that he sold. Possible that if you find one with a working screen it has been recently replaced.

there’s also a couple aftermarket board options that were available and may still be that don’t have the OLED.

Ah. I hadn’t considered that a working screen might be a replacement. Flory boards are still available which is good option to just keep an FX going but I’d love to have one with a working OLED.

I would've liked to know what actually caused the issue... I naively bought a different OLED screen, thinking I could just plug it in to replace the old one on my Rev-I, since the actual board still works and can still cycle through settings... No such luck, though.

I would be tempted to find someone who does PCB repairs to get a better understanding of the issue.

I talked to a guy with an original working FX OLED. He said that after going through a few FXs & a Rev-i which had screens that died, he found that the boards stored a little bit of a charge even after the battery was disconnected. He thinks that’s what killed the screens. He said what he does with the one that still works is after a day of play he disconnects the battery & then powers the gun up to discharge any possible stored charge. Whether that’s the case or whether he just got lucky with this one screen, i can’t say.
