    How are DM6s?

This is posted some what locally for $200. Says it works. I like the looks but concerned about reliability and parts availability. What do you think?

That's a Proto Matrix 6 (PM6). It's a fine gun but not worth $200. Maybe more like $125. Parts availability shouldn't be a big issue.

I am not one that is up to date on the newest space guns, but I have a DM7 and it shoots amazing. I mostly play pump and mech, so when I take out the DM7 I am always blown away by how smooth it is. I assume the DM6 and DM7 are close to identical. $200 seems like a reasonable price.

As said above, that is a PM6. They are decent, but I think you can do better. That one does have the a UL barrel and a CP reg, but those are easy enough to come by on their own.

If you are going after a Proto Matrix, 8 is the one you want.

These aren't bad, per se. The board in it is not super adjustable as I recall and won't do 10 if I am remembering correctly. These were a very popular board for Angel conversions so it's unlikely that you would readily find one new any more IMO. These work just like their bigger bretheren. They are finicky for weather/temp changes and sort of an art to lubing them correctly both from volume of and type.
Dye still supports them with new parts such as reg seats. This is a GOOD one before that eye pipe bullshizz. The biggest issue is that the allen screw holding the eye cover like to seize or strip out. Be very careful with the battery harness as well.
The CP reg should be considered a decent alternate to the Dye Hyper. I agree that it would be best to talk them down, particularly since it doesn't have the UL frame. Looks to be in good shape otherwise. Good for big hands.

As far as matrixes go, you could reach out to Mueller on PBN (maybe he's on here too IDK. You can find some of his posts in the Dye section). He is kind of an expert on the older ones. He buys, sells and parts out a lot of them. He could tell you the going price and gotchas of them by model.

The DM6 and 7 are great guns as are the PM series but...and I'm going to be really honest here...go buy a newer gun if it's your only electro. The Planet Eclipse ETEK series poppits can be had around $300 if you shop used and the GTEKs can be had for the $200 price range and both are worlds better in every way than an old Matrix.

I went down that path a couple years ago buying an DM7 as an "only electro" and it was a nightmare of greasing o-rings, trying to find eye pipes, and LPR adjustments at the field every time the temp changed. Unless you're buying a Matrix because you're a matrix collector or have some emotional tie to the gun, just buy something newer and made by PE if you're meaning to actually use the gun.

The thing about a Matrix of any of the older LPR types is to rebuild it, grease it properly (and with the right lube) get it shooting and just fire it a couple hundred times. Set the regs and specifically the LPR then completely leave that alone. Never use LPR for temp changes. Bump dwell 2 or 3. The other aspect that is important with many Dye markers is to take the battery out. All of them drain batteries. It's strange as hell, but without fail you shoot it one week. A week or two later you think something is up and go wrenching on regs just to find a dead batt and then back to square one.
The other thing is to NEVER change an oring unless there is something actually wrong and it's not really a general good idea to open it at all if you don't have to. Once those rings wear in right and everything is seated and set they shoot so so choice.

So basically, the Matrix is a labor of love and almost any newer electro is worlds better as a shooter. Yes.

Thank you for that info. I do still have a DM3 that I run on occasion so it's good to know about the dwell for temp changes.

Just thought it looked cool but thanks deffinately for the info. I have two Proto Rails that I’m currently using. For older guns they shoot amazing. I’m just now learning the electrics.
