    Etek 3 Low Velocity

Just wanted to pick your brains.

Have a basically unused Etek 3 shooting in 230s with flush LPR and 250ish psi on hpr.

Sounds like a lame noid to me, but SMCs are usually pretty reliable

    have done:
    rebuild both regs and seats
    fresh good battery
    maxed out dwell
    replaced rammer orings
valve/bolt isn’t upside down, poppet moves freely

    still to do:

check actual LPR pressure but it feels right
    disassemble noid and rebuild spool

Sounds like a solenoid on its way out......unless..

Have you checked the ram bumper? I had a flukey velocity on an 05 and the rammer being to far back caused this

    Any shoot down or fsdo?

What barrel and paint are you using?

What happens if you crank up the hpr?

      1. No shootdown or fsdo, every shot equally sucks

      2. Evil and stock barrel. I know its a hot dog down a hallway but eteks don’t need a tight fit to shoot over 300

      3. HPR is cranked out flush at 260-270ish psi, getting no more speed for more pressure

I’m giving it way too much LPR and getting nothing

just put it on a tester, it was over 100psi but the recharge on this 3d printed reg seat is godawful

gonna get some polyurethane seats and try again

I don't care what the number is. What does it do if you give it more?

You can't damage the noid. It will vent if it gets too much

I realize I left out specific detail- I had the LPR cranked until the set screw stuck out like a nipple in alaska, no velocity increase. I set it way back to 100 so it didn't pop my tester's 0-150 gauge (better gauges in the mail lol)

I'm not scared of damaging the noid with LPR capable pressure, but it should be noted to observers that the noid vent won't necessarily protect the plastic manifold from a supercharging HPR (unrelated)

Gonna start over with better reg seats since the 3d print ones have lost my trust. I doubt that they are the issue, but an LPR taking 5 seconds to recharge to 100psi is gonna piss on my diagnostics

Getting new pistons for the regs is the safest way to get new seats (unless someone can cut some for you that are dimensionally correct). The pistons are still out there new. Based on your description the LPR is dropping pressure before the ram can open the valve at full velocity with that recharge issue (assuming the noid isnt shot)

As a sidenote a stock etek 3 will need closer to 300 PSI HPR to get in the 290s-300 despite what some posts in the eclipse tech FB group will claim (easily verifiable in testing and vetted testing posts from PBN when it was launched).. Maxxing out the dwell will only net you about a 10 PSI drop at 300 fps. Leave it at 10ms for the stock ram (11 if equipped with zick2). The original manuals had you at 9ms which was a hair low.

Yeah I’m not buying $30 plus shipping of pistons every time I rebuild an ego lol. Bob Long was selling replacement reg seats for timmies long before PE started selling their clones, they have zero excuse for pulling crap like that.

Got some better urethane seats in the mail, 2 hpr style and 6 LPR style for less than the cost of two pistons

If it was a slow recharge problem then he should see shoot down in all the shots after the first. But the first would still be able to be at full velocity

What? Timmies use Schrader valve regs, PE uses a floating poppet. They are different styles. Timmy doesn't have a regulator seat, you replace the whole schrader.

Regardless, for your marker I think the seats are not a bad place to start. I doubt that's the problem though but it's not a bad idea to just get new ones

Have you replaced the bolt tip o ring? Too much blow by could cause this and check where the bolt is when the ram touches the valve. I've had a few cases where there was some alignment issues. Typically someone gets a bolt from a different marker and thinks something different must be better but the new bolt they have is a different length or something

Rear ram bumper? I've had a case where it was sticking ave causing velocity issues(that one was more inconsistent over consistently low)

Try a different hpr just to rule out a flow issue

Torpedos do have replaceable seats. Well, poppet seals but basically the same part.

Later Bob Long schraders get a pass for being cheap off the shelf parts that can't be phased out as easily. How does $15 shipped for 10 lpr schraders compare to $15 for one piston with a perfectly replaceable seat?

                  https://ebay.io/m/NUGEBp

I'll install some proper regs seat soon and we'll figure her out

I agree with the reg seats being the possible issue. Maybe the LPR chamber is not large enough to fully cycle the ram without a pressure drop, so if the LPR piston is sticking to the seat, it could be choking flow/reducing pressure during the cycle.
