    Promaster build

I took my completely stock promaster out for the first time since my rammer started leaking in 2007. I forgot how close to modern these things are. Anyway I have been building a promaster out of parts I have. I’m trying to make the ultimate promaster. The body is lasoya, the reg adapter is stock icd, cp reg, aka lpr, vapor valve with light spring, kila drive board, cp trigger (these tend to not fit well I might sand down the sides), Bob long cam drive asa, inception grips, superfly bolt (idk if I will use it or stock), aka feed neck, and icdu rammer. I had ordered kila detents but they get either never got shipped, got lost in shipping, or I lost them if anyone knows where to get some please lmk. The plan is to anno this gun in some way as well, but my first plan of action is to get it shooting. I am having some leaks around the solenoid barbs I need to take care of.

Very nice! Always loved the look of the Lasoya's.

I think the biggest leaps for modern markers are the fact that there's just not much that needs to be upgraded. OEM regulators are better, OEM boards are better, and most bolts/engines are pretty well tuned.

I agree, new markers are leaps and bounds ahead in design. I just wanted to build something I could play with at a local 5 man or something. After last weekend I would try one with a stock promaster at 10bps, the rotor even fits the stock feed neck.

I had one of these back in the day. Was a nice shooter. I bought some fancy ram for it as well, but don’t remember what it was. Good luck on the build!

The Promaster had so much potential. If only they included regs that actually functioned and a ram you didn't need to heat up to maintain.

Yeah, the stock hprs were junk, lprs decent enough though, and the ram thing sucked. Really turned a lot of people away.

I wish we could've seen what ICD would've done down the line with the promaster platform.

They should have used the icdu ram for the stock gun. It makes maintenance so simple with a thick ram that just comes out the back. I feel like they would have included it in a future promaster if they hadn’t quit the industry.

Let's be clear, they didn't quit, they were forced out by the Smart Parts patent lawsuits. Moving on from my personal vendetta...

It would've been very interesting to see where ICD went with the platform over time. It was always interesting that PE went for length to compensate for shot volume, and ICD tended to have shorter, stockier bodies.

I'm unfamiliar with Smart Parts vs ICD. What specifically went on there?

They were one of the victims of the Smart Parts "electronic marker" patent lawsuits in the mid-late '00s. The reddit thread linked below has some more information, and there's also been a couple threads here about it. Long story short, the Gardners bought up some patent rights and decided to sue most of the paintball industry over the use of a circuit board and solenoid. Big companies like DYE, Bob Long, and PE were able to just pay them off, others didn't/weren't able to.

I am aware of smart parts and their litigation. I wasn't sure if there was something specifically targeted from ICD.

Icd did quit the industry but it was because of smart parts. They didn’t think it was worth it to deal with paying royalties and just focused on other industries. Smart parts really screwed the industry back in the day, I’m glad they got restructured.

ICD quit because of the SP lawsuits. They hung in there for a while, but couldn't maintain their presence. That's what I've gathered.

ICD still has o-ring kits for their markers & whatnot, and last I checked you could still buy a PRP, or at least parts for it. I tried getting some LP tubing from them a while back. I needed to know what size the hose in a BKO was, and they gave me the size & said they could sell me the tubing. I asked if they would sell me a few feet of it & heard nothing back...

Right now their main business is in firearms and (IIRC) military contracts.

Don't be happy about SP's restructure. SP shouldn't have been restructured- they/their owners should have been permanently blacklisted from the whole industry. But that's getting off topic.

From what I heard the gardners are no longer involved. Not sure if that’s true, but that is a good thing if they aren’t. As for icd parts, I did order and received a couple of promaster rebuild kits. Shipping was quick so they still have a lot of parts. For the tubing it should be standard intimidator hose, I have made autococker hose work too.
