    Promaster or B2k

    Hows it going gang-
Im in the process of rebuilding my dads old B2k, and I am having so much fun learning about this marker. The B2k was my first electro, but i ended up switching to an angel as a teenager. With the help of this forum im getting dads old B2k up- anyway, really enjoying the restoration process. Part of me is getting an itch to build a marker that could compete with oh say an LV2- but have it be an OG marker from way back with some tinkerings inside. I was thinking of building a B2k and making it trayless, or just restoring a promaster. I think either would be a great competitor to the modern stacked tubed markers. I love the internals in the B2k, the simplicity and how robust it is, the promaster has the trayless mod built into it. What do you guys think?

Im 40 now and still make it out to play with my dad and brother about once every two months.

Promasters are fine guns, but most of the fun has already been had with them. They have AC threaded barrels, eyes, and are trayless. There isn't really a whole lot left to do. B2Ks on the other hand....they are old enough that there is LOTS to do and lots of different ways to do it. That's where all the fun is, it's in building something truly yours.

The other option you could consider would be a Bkomaster. BKO body with a promaster grip frame, noid and ram. I've only ever seen one of those. It'd be really freaking cool to see one of those built around those sexy Murder Inc BKOs that have been hanging around on eBay for the last few months....

Poll needs a "Why not both" answer.
Both are cheap enough to get and play with.
Only issue with anything ICD is their own proprietary barrel.
Finding ICD barrels in the wild is hard.
I can never tell if it is Cocker thread or ICD thread on some of the markers.
I had a BKO and a Promaster and B2K and I always get the barrel threads mixed up on them.

ICD threads are the superior thread by a long shot. Shame the market never realized it.

The quick and easy way to tell what threads the marker takes is by looking at the milling on the front of the top tube.

On ICD threaded markers, the front of the top tube is flush with the bottom tube.

On the Autococker threaded markers, the top tube is milled back maybe a 1/4" more then the bottom tube.

ICD threaded Marker (Top and bottom tubes are flush)

Autococker threaded Marker (Top tube is milled back 1/4")

You could also try to just remember what year each marker was made, ICD didn't fully implement autococker threads until mid way through 2003, but there are a lot of exceptions to just using production year so that's never the preferred method, The BL Defiant ALWAYS used cocker threads, most private label ICD used cocker threads even pre-2003, and I believe cocker threads were a little known option you could special request at the factory even before then. (Kind of like the GS Magnetic Trigger return).

Promasters, Freestyles and Defiants are always cocker threaded. B2Ks can be either, I believe most BKOs are cocker threaded as well but I think some of the earlier ones used ICD threads.

Personally I really prefer the Quad lead ICD threads from a purely mechanical perspective. Such a beautiful little detail that is always overlooked.

Thanks. That I can see now. I'm pretty sure that I had a BKO that was ICD threaded. I remember I had the stock barrel and a Dye barrel, but it didn't fit any of my cocker stuff.
        Working...
