I have a Spyder VS2 with a balanced valve and am thinking of putting it into a Raven Nexion. Is this a straight drop in or is there anything I should be aware of?

At the minimum, you'll have to use the shorter striker from the VS2/VS3/RS/RSX, and block off some of the blowback gas vents.I can haz feedback?

I have the full VS2 internals, so no issues with the striker. I’ll have to take the valve out and look at the gas vents and see what I can do. -
The vents you need to block off are on the body. Remove the trigger frame to see them. You also have to block off the hole where the pin that goes across the body by the valve was.

Yep, you'll also need to punch out the valve retaining pin and fill the holes somehow.

Double check the valve retaining screw (the big brass one) fits correctly and the valve aligns with the air passage.
With the trigger frame being further back you will probably need a very soft striker spring to allow the striker enough travel. You should also try to get the pressure down below 350 psi otherwise the inner o-rings on the valve can blow out. I've had luck at 400 psi but I think that is a bit of a risk. Remember the VS2 operates at about 200 psi.Comment

It's not really that much work. Pull the old valve and striker out and find your weakest striker spring. The stock valve spring is fine for now.
Pull the valve retaining body pin and plug the holes with something and throw a piece of electrical tape over them, that's enough to test with.
Put same tape over the vent hole on the body bottom, will have to remove the frame, and put back on.
Set your PSI to 300 and see if it will cycle, drop it as low as you can to see what it will cycle at. If it won't cycle at 300 psi try your weakest valve spring.
See if you can hit velocity without going over 350psi.
Should take you about 10 minutes to switch the internals if you've taken a lot of spyders apart, and it's not crusty

Ya the pressure should still be on the valve side of those holes so it doesn't take much to plug them. The airflow will go to the highest flow path, so it is unlikely to "pop" the tape off or whatever you decide to use. I've used a little sealant to good success, which is easy to actually pop out if you want to return it to stock later on.

Got the balance valve transferred over to the Raven and temporarily plugged the valve retainer holes and the vent in the body. I think I’ll need to order in a Spyder spring kit as I only have stock springs.Comment

Give it a try anyways, just set the pressure to 200 psi on the reg. Worst case it doesn't cycle or you are shooting super hot.
In my case I shot really hot with stock springs.Comment

For my build I'm thinking of using a LP MaxFlo. They max out at 200psi iirc so no risk of blowouts under normal conditions, but also may not output high enough. I'll probably run a bottomline version so I can keep the gas through grip for volume.

If worse comes to worse I can use the VS2’s horrible reg. Should be good enough for testing at least.Comment

Ion reg should work as well. I think they top out at 250psi or something like that.Comment

There should be enough volume in the body, but more volume might help in tuning. The biggest obstacle will be the longer seer position compared to the VS2 trigger frame, it has to travel a bit further to catch. This is where the softer striker spring can come into play.Comment
