    Spyder Fenix ACS regulator

    Hi Spyder Aficionados,

    I recently acquired a stock Fenix ACS (pic) for my nephew quite cheaply and am in the process of going through it to clean gunk and replace o-rings.


    The manual with the parts diagram was quite helpful but it seems to omit a breakdown of the regulator. I have two questions:

    (1) What is the correct size/material o-ring of the red-ish o-ring inside the reg to use as a replacement?


    (2) The regulator itself appears to be held onto the vertical adapter(?) by two screws but if these are tightened down enough so that the reg doesn't rotate when grasping it they seem to dig into the metal underneath - was this the design and I shouldn't worry about it or do I not tighten them too much and allow the rotation?

    Not sure on the o-ring size but yeah, just snug up the set screws just so it doesn’t spin when installed. You don’t have to torque them much at all and risk digging in to the aluminum more

      If memory is correct, I think it's like a 111. Just pull it off and put it on a sizing chart

      Yup, set screws straight into aluminum. Do that last though to make sure all your air lines are facing the correct direction. You don't need to go all hulk on it but I wouldn't expect perfectly clean aluminum after either

        I wasn't sure about how accurate the sizing chart would be because when I tried to pull the o-ring off it semi-disintegrated. I'll check out the 111 though.

        Thanks both re: tightness of the screws as well.

          The material is urethane. Not sure on the size or durometer. Personally, I would just replace the front block with an ASA threaded one and either use an actual decent regulator or a gas through grip. The stock Spyder regulators do more harm than good in terms of performance gains vs reliability sacrifice.

            Toestr when you suggest replacing the front block and reg are these what you mean?I thought I was reading either here or on pbnation that the later ('09) fenix regulators were garbage but that the reg on this earlier model was passable.

            There are a couple of seal companies in a reasonable driving distance so I'll probably start with an o-ring replacement first but I'll keep your suggestion in mind if it isn't performing well.

              Yep, the front block off most other Spyders should work with that. It will allow you to put an aftermarket regulator on (like the Palmer's you linked to, or others) or to put on gas through grip and run it at straight tank pressure.

            The alternative to replacing the block would be to gut the reg and block up holes with grub screws so it doesn’t leak. It’ll keep the factory look and wouldn’t need rebuilding like the old regulators. Spyders work great off of high output pressure from the tank.

              Yes, but don't buy from dirtyworks. I used to work for that guy, he is a terrible person and bad for paintball. It's very likely that's a used front block but he doesn't say that anywhere. Also, he lists everything under "spyder" rather than Kingman, I don't think he knows that Kingman is the parent company

              Now I don't think the spyder regs are as bad as people around here seem to make them out to be

              That said I will also NOT call them good regulators. But you don't need any regulator on a spyder so just get rid of it. Simplify the setup

              If you get rid of the regulator, all you need is about ten size 015 o rings and you have a rebuild kit. The 015 is also tank o rings so if you have those around, you also have a rebuild kit

                I'm appreciate keeping things simple so ditching the reg sounds good to me. Undecided on the stock look w/ grub screws or a gas-thru but I'll leave that for later.

                I snagged a urethane o-ring for $1.50 that seems like it is snug. I just need to find time to gas it up and give it a test.
