Just found a Choker Screw Spyder!

[Gradyfest]

A Facebook paintball group just paid off big time! The for sale photo only showed one side, but I recognized the wide mouth powerfeed and knew there was a chance it could be a Choker Screw receiver. I had him PM some photos of the other side and sure enough, winner winner!

This is all I saw at first:

Then he sent me this photo to make my morning:

Nice. Never seen that before. So that controls airflow from the valve through the bolt?

[Gradyfest]

Yes it limits the airflow from the valve. By screwing the screw in you “choke” off the airflow, hence the name. They are the very first early Spyder receivers. One can only speculate on how many were made before they dropped the choker screw, but no more than a few thousand I would say, tops. They do not show up very often and are quite possibly the rarest most collectible Spyder to date. Everyone wants the 1st of stuff! Lol

[un2xs]

Indeed. I still keep my eye out for a working Hammer III that I can afford. (Yeah, that will happen ...not.)

[Revs9k]

Nice Score!

[Pumpytrilly1]

Wow that is cool

[MrKittyCatMeowFace]

Does it work? The choker screws function i mean. .

[Tarsun2]

i have one and see them from time to time. definitely neat.
gotta get the correct hinge trigger for it to be complete

[Gradyfest]

I’d like to see it, might have a spare correct one for you.

[Gradyfest]

I swoop up everyone I can find, I have a total of 3 now. I’ll have to throw some pics up.

Oh, and I’ve actually never shot any of them to play with the choker screw. I need to buy a pack of the big older striker rings. Can anyone point me in the right direction there?

[Tarsun2]

instead of the trigger being one solid piece of metal, it was a thin lever with a small hinge with a plastic trigger. ill try and get a picture.

[Gradyfest]

Oh I know what the correct trigger is, and I might have an extra for you. What I meant I’d like to see is your Choker Screw Spyder.

[scottieb]

Nice find. Good on you to investigate further to see if it was a choker body.

[Gradyfest]

Thanks scottieb, my #2 choker receiver came from you if I remember right. Traded a mint old barrel I forget the name of now? It was the only one of those brand barrels I’ve seen. Good trade.

[scottieb]

Yes, that's right. It was a Vortex barrel. I've got it on my Diamond Labs Spyder. I put up a pic of it.

[Surf2Live]

Congrats on the find! Nothing wrong with restoring it to its factory glory, but don't be afraid to mod it. I'm almost finished building mine and looking forward to tuning it. It needs a braided line, grips, and a bottle for the unireg:

[Gradyfest]

Beautiful guns gentlemen! Love seeing them. I thought so scottieb, good seeing you again, post hack.

Prior to the one I just found because I had two, thanks to scottieb, I did modify one. Let me show!

[Gradyfest]

I already have the stock configuration Choker Screw Spyder. So I wanted to put all the rarest Spyder parts I had together with the second receiver I had, here it is so far:

As you can see, unfortunately somebody got at the frame with a electro pen in the past though.

[scottieb]

Oof! I believe I remember this frame from a number of years back being for sale. Perhaps on Ebay?

[Revs9k]

I believe this one was on shop goodwill because I bid on it too LOL. I was hoping it was silver sharpie and not actually etched. I got cold feet and quit bidding either way its kinda neat the way it is
