    E99 Avant

I found an E99 in storage. Just for kicks I put a new battery in, reconnected the jumpers and the board lit up. I attached a tank and nothing. I can't hear the solenoid clicking so I'm thinking it needs replacing and I found them in stock.

I haven't touched a Spyder in probably 20 years though. Can I just swap the solenoid, change orings add a vertical reg and send it with HPA? Are am I going to have to find a new front black and LPC?

Just trying to ser if it's worth me getting it back running for fun

I'm going through the process of reviving like 50 Spyders and similar. Not an expert by any means, but from what I understand the capacitors are generally the things that need replacing but it could be the solenoid too. The whole frame can be had for pretty cheap too ($30ish).

Other than that yea, basically all I've had to do is replace the Urethane Orings on the valve and hammer. The Spyders seem to run fine on my 750ish psi output tank if that's an option for you. I've had to replace a few hammer springs as well.

Financially it'll probably cost more than it's worth to get running, but it's still cheap nostalgia and fun. I've got a bunch of extra parts too. Some free, some cheap. Shoot me a PM if you need anything.

I read about the capacitor, not sure I trust myself to replace it. But the solenoid looks fairly straight forward. I need to remember how to disassemble this thing to be honest lol

I don't care about cost as long as I can get it running hpa for cheap. I'll probably just run it once or twice for giggles

Yea I didn't trust myself either on that. Lol. Should be fine on a high pressure HPA tank!

Spyders need no mods to run air.

What kind of battery 9.6 V , people say a 9 volt won’t activate the solenoid
On these older e-spyders, there are two things to check:
            1. Battery, as others mentioned. They need 9.6V to reliably operate. A standard 9V is realistically like 8.5V or so, which isn't enough. Since the original Java 9.6V are pretty rare, try Powerex instead. I've used those on e-spyder rebuilds. I can't say if the original spyder plug-in charger works for the Powerex batteries, i've only just used an external aftermarket charger.
            2. Capacitor. The circuit board has a big cylinder on it, usually it's black. If the silver end is slightly bulging, it's bad. If you're comfortable soldering, remove it and get a new one. Specs should be printed on the capacitor, shop for one with matching wire leads, make sure polarity matches when replacing it (pos to pos, neg to neg).
            my feedback

Replacing the cap or the noid are almost the same thing. Just desolder two contacts and solder two new ones.
Batteries need to be 9.6v to get any really consistent firing out of them. It's so rare I come across one that works well on just a 9v that I don't even bother trying anymore.
It's almost always the cap. I buy them in bulk and I only have a few left I replace that many.

take a look at the silver top of the capacitor, is it domed or flat? if its domed, it needs to be replaced. Its a straight forward solder repair. There is a + and - side though, so pay attention to that.
The solenoids can go bad but are easy to check. Either ohm it out (check continuity between the leads and make sure there isnt a short) or just put 9v to it while the marker is un-cocked (no pressure on the solenoid) and see if it activates.

worst case, you slap a mech frame on there and ditch the electronics. you can certainly add a reg though, id stay away from the mini asa regs.

This is my recommendation. Electro blowbacks always seem a little finicky, and mechanical stuff just works. I've always thought E-Frame Spyders feel a bit like lipstick on a pig

Not always. A lot of time a longer barrel is all you need. Sometimes a spring. I have plenty running just fine in stock trim right now.

If anyone needs capacitors soldered I can do that, chances are I even have the capacitors already also
